Wow,looks like he’s doing great and he’s one lucky kitten! I’ve never heard of Hartz kitten formula but it looks like he’s thriving on it. Please never use Hartz flea or tick preparations on your kitty though. It’s a good idea to see what the vet has regarding kitten replacement milk.

Little Mr kitten is adorable!! I ♥ the belleh picture! 🙂

About formula for the kitty – I use royal canin’s babycat milk, and I’ve never had any problems with it. The majority of opinions however agree that goat’s milk is the absolute best thing to substitute-feed a kitten with, either fresh or canned goat’s milk seems to be fine.

Just saw the update pictures. Completely adorable. Can’t add anything on the feeding issue since I haven’t dealt with kittens that young, but you’ve already gotten some good responses. Thank you for taking on this baby. As I tell all those who take on bottle babies “You are my hero” The big orangie in my avatar was rescued as newborn orphan and taken to bottle feeder. I didn’t get him until he was 5 months, but I know I’d never have gotten him if someone hadn’t done what you are doing now.

What a darling baby! I like “Miracle” as a name, because you’ve certainly worked one on your new fuzzy ‘son’ 🙂

You’re doing GREAT with him! Can’t wait to watch this baby grow and thrive.

Buttercup – I have read the horror stories about the Hartz flea products, I found hartzvictims.org. There was also some mentions of the kitten formula (and at review sites). Went to the vet and they had heard (though rare) of neurological problems caused by the Hartz formula, including total paralysis.

While the kitten has been doing seemingly fine on the Hartz powdered formula I opted to pick up some cans of KMR while at the vet’s.

I have heard that goats milk works very well as a replacer being very low in lactose but had already picked up the KMR. Before long I’ll be introducing him into wet food and mixing that with goats milk could work well. I think I can find it canned at Walmart.

My camera’s batteries died so I didn’t get in any shots today but I never got the ones from yesterday uploaded. I have them up now so enjoy 🙂

When I got him (at 2 days old) he was no bigger than the bottle I feed him with! Literally…I doubt he weighed 2 ounces even then, Now he is around 7.

I’m completly kerpluffed. That first picture and the last so got too me. I’m imaging my guy when he was that little and being bottlefed by the unknown to me angel who took him on. So glad he’s growing and doing so well.

Qwowp: How old is your kitten now? And have you named him/her? He is really adorable, and his weight sounds good. Duchess was also a light weight weighing only 7 ounces at 3-4 weeks. So I wouldn’t worry too much about the weight, but it sounds like he is doing well. Has he been to the vet yet?

As for nesting spots, if I remember right, it looked pretty comfy. I guess as he gets progessively bigger, make the box bigger. Duchess had one of those big tub like things but then I moved her into a dog crate. I then put cardboard on the crate [she liked to climb and stick her head through things and she’d get stuck]. I also put the heating pad in it, with a towel down on the floor, with a litter box and a wrapped towel around the heating pad. As long as he has a place to move off of it then his nest should be okay. I really like the blankets you have in there, that will be really comfortable for him. The stuffies are a nice effect too…kind of looks like an odd littermate, that’s what I use with Duchess. Sometimes it’s good for them to have something soft to cuddle up to.

Another thing about the place of the nesting, it should be warm but not hot. Comfortable since the room should be okay. Also try not to have too much light just yet since I’ve read that kittens cannot regulate their eye sight just yet, and their pupils don’t shrink as quickly Other than that you’re doing a great job daddy. You should get a catster page for your new kitten too!

My kitten is now 3 and a half weeks old and doing well. I had some trouble when I switched formula’s from the powered Hartz to canned KMR. I should have done it gradually. For a day or 2 he had some foul smelling loose stools.

I picked up some pedilyte, baby rice cereal, plain yogurt, and goats milks. I was ready take him back to the vet if need be but his stool got more consistent and the strong oder went away. I don’t think he liked the taste of the yogurt but a couple drops of karo syrup fixed that.

Anyway…No new pics at the moment but I plan to take some soon.his baby ‘milk’ teeth are cutting in. He’s had his little front teeth almost a week but now his fangs are just starting to poke through, along with the back teeth.

His eyes are coordinated and he is exploring, i can put him on the bed and he’ll follow the direction of my finger. If i make high pitched sounds I see his little ears rotate so he’s responding very well.

He is small for his age but if the mother cat is the one I think it is she is a small cat (6-7 pounds?).

He’s very alert and likes to look around and explore after feeding/burping pee and pooping. Finally starting to look like a little cat rather than some rodent lol.

He’s about ready to start litter training and transitioning to solid foods. Doing quite well all in all and much thanks to the support I found here.

I’m glad to hear your kitty is doing so well! Dont worry about weight, when Duchess came in for her first vet visit at 4 weeks, she was only 7 oucnes…She has since quadrupled in weight, weighing in at 32 ounces. I hope you can get some pictures soon.

The comment about the rodent was funny…when my boyfriend first brought me duchess [a rescue found in his warehouse]. He thought it was a rat that was making cat noises.

Your kitten looks like he’s doing very well! Congratulations on helping him make it this far. He surely would have perished without your intervention.

Personally, I like the name Rocky – he’s certainly a fighter who got off to a rocky start! But you’ll figure out the best name for him. He may start responding to it sooner than you think. A black and white female kitten that I raised, whose temporary name was “Rocky,” remained Rocky even though she was adopted out at 12-16 weeks of age. Her new owners said she responded well to it, and when they tried switching her to a different name, that didn’t work. (The owners continue to send me updated photos of Rocky every Christmas.)

Please keep us informed how he’s doing, and of course, don’t forget to share photos! He looks like a complete sweetie.

Thanks for info. I wan to add this here that very little training is necessary. Put the kitten into the litterpan 15 minutes or so after a meal, perhaps stimulating it by guiding its paws into a digging motion. If the kitten hops right out, put it right back in again, at least for a time or two. That and the occasional remainder is all you should have to do.

I think 3 weeks is a little young to start transitioning to solids…It is your kitten, but I feel that you should wait at least a week before attempting to try but that is my opinion and you certainly do not have to listen to it.

As for the litter training..Vincent is right, just put him in a couple of times after he’s eaten and he’ll understand it. It’s amazing how smart cats are. Duchess knew exactly what a litter pan and what to do in it once she had one in there. I would not use clumping litter though, since he may eat it. I know Duchess sometimes plays with hers when it’s not in the litter pan.

    good luck

What a darling baby you have! You certainly are doing great with him too! I have a litter suggestion. We use “World’s Best” it is made from ground up corn plants and is totally organic. It clumps but not like the clay stuff and if he ingests a little of it, it won’t hurt him as the clay would. Added benefit is we find it really keeps the odor away. We have ten cats and the house does not smell like it (according to visitors who always seem amazed. LOL)
