Hello everyone! I need some advice. My girlfriend and I found this abandoned kitten on Saturday; she was by herself and we made sure to wait a bit to see if the mom would return, but she didn’t. She still had her umbilical cord attached, but on Sunday it fell off. We took her to our vet today just to ensure she was okay, and our vet was happy to see how lively and active she is. The problem is: Every two hours, we feed her, but she doesn’t stop crying for about 20-30 minutes. We try to burp her and we help evacuate her bowels and everything before/after her meals. We just don’t know what she’s crying about. We try cuddling her but she’s so squirmy that she doesn’t stay in one place on our body long. We have a thermometer in the box (the box has a heating pad on the bottom, a blanket, and some washcloths for warmth, as well as a warm water bottle and a stuffed fuzzy panda) and the warmth doesn’t seem to be a problem. It’s warm enough in there. She’s eating very well, she eats about 3.5-4 CC of KMR every feeding, and she’s deficated today and the day before and they were the right color, so her bowel movements seem okay. This is our first time caring for a kitten this tiny, our last kitten (who is now 8 months old) was 2.5 months when we got him, so this is a fairly new experience for us, and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It may be that she is just lonely, or just her personality. Sounds to me like you are doing everything right. I will post some links for you to read over on hand rearing kittens. Bless you for not leaving her to die in the elements. Many mother cats abandon one or more kittens, sometimes whole litters. Let us know how she is doing!

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the kitty, so are like that. Just like humans have different personality kittens also behave differently. So unless you notice something really wrong with the kitty you don’t have to take tension.

Thank you so much for the reassurance, both of you. She is doing much better now. I was told the liquid KMR can produce diarrhea, while the powdered KMR can cause constipation, so that’s fun. 😛
I’ve included some pictures of the little stinker, she is 3.5 weeks old now and we’ve named her Milah. She’s a beauty. 🙂
The picture with Milah and the other big lady is my other cat, Bella. 🙂
