Hi everyone! I’m new to the website. I need and want to learn more about kitten care, as we have taken in a runt of a farm liter, that we think the mom stopped feeding. So any insight would be great!!! Thanks

Hi Amanda! U came to the right place 😉 I actually had a few runts. The mother des them but they remained skinny. So I intervened. I let the mother still feed them, but I also fed them myself.

Keep a watch on the kittens weight. If it seems healthy and doesn’t seem to b getting thinner, it may in fact be getting fed when u r not around. Sad fact though is that mothers will sometimes abandon their runts as in survival of fittest mode.

If the kitten looks like it may be getting weak thin or lethargic, if you can find goat milk, prepare a bottle of that. You can warm it a little to room temp on the stove. Don’t let it sit out. Add some l lysine and offer it every couple hours. Continue to keep an eye on the kittens health.

I didn’t have either l lysine or goat milk. I used full fat cow milk n molasses until the kitten was able to eat canned food but my little weakling grew to b a big bruiser. 🙂

Hi, Amanda, please check out the thread that Jeankit gave you above (the youtube videos will give you all the basics and the Messybeast website is brilliant for more information on problem kitties) and please check back with any more questions. We are not vets but we will try to help.
