    Hi,

We have a new Kitten (Mindy) who we think is 9 months old although she is very small. This is her 4th day in her new home and it’s taken her that long for her to come out from under the sofa and come near us. She even let me stroke her and play with her yesterday evening!

One thing however, continues… the mew mew mew all night long. Should we get up or is it best to leave her? She always has fresh litter and dried food and water so wants for nothing! She has a blanket in a box next to the sofa in the corner, and also some toys around. She can roam the whole flat and look out of the window as well.

What should we do? I don’t want the noise to annoy the neighbours, plus I have to get up for work in the mornings after being woken up all night!!

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks,

    Charley and Paul

    Welcome to TDK 🙂

She may be uncomfortable in the dark, its a new place and she just isn’t used to it or she could be lonely. If you have night lights, put one in the hallway, one hear her litterbox, maybe near her food, might try feeding her later in the evening so she sleeps with a full stomach.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. we’ll get a nightlight for her. We put the radio on quietly when we went out so maybe we’ll do that at night too.

I second the idea of a late dinnertime and night lights. A good long playtime (with a wand toy or laser pointer) to wear her out before bed could help too. Good luck with her.

Welcome to TDK MM! Aww…she’s lonely! Line her bed with a worn t-shirt of yours so your scent can be a comfort when you are not there. The tips the others gave you are good ones too! I feed my boys later in pm & usually take them outside on a leash for fresh air so they grab their zzz’s when I do!

Here is a link on raising kittens. Part 3 has info about Sleeptime!

Does she have access to your room at night? She may just want company and there’s nothing nicer than waking up with a furry bed warmer on your feet.
