    Hi guys,
So we’ve just got a 3 month old kitten and I have some questions if that’s ok. First off the lady we bought him off only fed him chicken and gave him cows milk to drink.
We’ve put him onto cat milk, which he loves, however the bottle says that a serving for a 4kg cat is 50mls, is this daily?
Pasha weighs 1.5kgs so I’m guessing that he should get half as much as this? He won’t drink water at all so I have been giving him more than 50mls a day but I’m probably giving him 100mls a day. Is this enough fluid for him or should I up his milk?
I’ve also tried mixing a little bit of water in with the milk, with the plan to be to lessen the milk and up the water over time, but he won’t drink any with the smallest amount of water in.
Next up is his food, as I said he was only given chicken at his breeders, we’ve bought him kitten food (wet and dry) but he won’t touch this. He does like tuna though so I’m currently mixing tuna with his wet food and he’s eating that but how do I get him to eat dry food?
Also the plan is for him to be a house cat, is there anything I should do to make him a house cat or is him being a house cat a little bit mean? We live in a very busy area with train tracks nearby so I am very wary of him being let out.
Last thing is parasites, he came to us with fleas so we’ve put some spot-on on and are giving him a comb through every day and we’re pretty sure he hasn’t been wormed because the breeder didn’t know what worming was. However the wormer was only for roundworms which I’m told is what most kittens have but I read that fleas can carry tapeworm eggs so should I not be treating him for this? I looked at the pet shops and the only tapeworm wormer I could find was for cats over 6 months. Do I not need to worry about tapeworms for a while yet?
Sorry for the long post and thanks for any replies I get!

Hi Lell. Yes, he will need wormed for tapeworms. You need to get him to the vet anyway for a general checkup and you can get the meds for that there. Also, he will need to be neutered as well. There is an ongoing war amongst cat people with inside vs. outside cats, but like you said — if it’s dangerous then keep him in. It’s not mean. Get him toys, a cat tree in front of a window, scratching posts that are long for him to stretch out and mark and scratch, and some like the horizontal cardboard scratchers. I will post a link for you on cat nutrition. Get some goat’s milk as it’s much cheaper than cat milk. It doesn’t contain lactose like cow’s milk does and has probiotics for his tummy and immune system. You can find it in the milk cooler or in the baking aisle in cans. The canned is condensed so add water 1 to 1.
Strange that a breeder would only feed chicken and cow’s milk to a cat as that is not adequate nutrition. Male cats in particular sometimes when a dry food only diet develop crystals in their bladders and urethra. It’s extremely painful and costly. I limit my cats dry food consumption to one meal a day of it, the rest is wet. Dry food is easy and some have no problems, so read the link and make your own decision. 🙂
