    Hi everyone!

So I got a new kitten last night. I was told that they were ready to go home and were 9 weeks. Eating wet food and litter trained. Well I forgot to ask his date of birth so in the car on the way home (I wasn’t driving) i messaged the seller to ask date of birth and I got a reply of just “7 weeks”. Obviously I questioned this as I was led to believe he was older and got no reply back.

Well we got home and after about 4 hours I tried him with some food. I could tell he was hungry as he was licking my fingers but seemed to have no idea on how to eat the wet food I was giving him even though I bought what they said he was having. So I’ve had to feed him tiny amount by hand and syringe him some water/milk. He hasn’t been to the toilet since we got him which is now 21 hours ago but is quite happy purring etc. he also has a bit of discharge from his eye which I have cleaned and I will be making an appointment with the vets tomorrow.

we’ve had cats before so aren’t novice owners but I’ve never had to wean and litter train a kitten this young before. It’s like their cat had kittens, they let her get on with it for 7 weeks and then they just got rid as soon as they could. I’m attached to him now though so will do what I need to for him

    I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience with this…

7 weeks although not ideal isn’t too bad of an age for rehoming but they shouldn’t have lied to you and at 7 weeks old he should be completely weaned at this stage I will always introduce wet food at 5 weeks old.. I would add some KMR or goats milk to wet food and make a purée .. He should lap that up.. It’s not unusual for a kitten to be off their food a little when first homed and it’s also not unusual for a kitten to only have a bowel movement once every 2 -3 days adding a little veg oil to the food will help move things along as will goats milk or even a little purée pumpkin…

Don’t give cows milk as this will upset his stomach . Most cats are lactose intolerant so it’s safer to give goats milk it’s lactose free and had L-lysine in it and this will help with the running eyes which could be cause by a virus called Feline Herpes which is incredibly common in kittens and young cats..

He will need to be checked over by a vet and given a good wormer as well as vaccinated ..

    Hope all goes well 🙂

We just took in a kitten at about 6 weeks old. We are giving him KMR with wet food mixed into it. Doesn’t look very appealing to me, but our little guy laps it right up. Sometimes he just takes the liquid and leaves the solid in the bowl, but I leave it with him and later he will go back and eat the solid food also.
