I just got my baby today suposably she is between 8 and 10 weeks old, I’m no new Kitty baby Mommy so this ordeal has me stumped, Love Bug keeps meow howling she has been running around the house like a crazy person, she is eating, going to the potty in the litter box and drinking water so, I have tried to cuddle she refuses, so I started answering her back with me owing now I’ve created a monster so to speak lol, if I don’t answer her she gets louder then a Siamese then she goes crazy looking for me, she went as far as climbing into the shower once she found me and wouldn’t budge, she didn’t care she was getting wet, as long as she was near me, I can’t put her in bed with me, I’m scared I’ll crush her because she is adnormally tiny small, what can I do to get her to stop this mind numbing, ear curdling crying, I’m afraid she going to make herself sick because she can’t be under my feat! Please Help!

Aw that annoying new kitten crying lol just kidding 🙂

Yes this is a common worry for new kitten slaves 🙂 especially if she’s a Siamese they are one of the more vocal breeds.. The trick to helping ease her separation anxiety is to preoccupy her with toys and your scent..

Ok firstly you need to get yourself some good toys and some interactive toys (battery operated ones) so before you go to bed each night you need to completely tired her out.. A cats natural instinct is to Hunt-kill-eat-sleep and in that order so you keep her attention and play with her for as long as it takes to wear her out some cats when they have had enough simple refuse to play any more and some will lay down and pant with an open mouth and you know then they’ve had enough.. Only then do you feed them preferably with dry food in a slow feeder toy ( draws out the night feeding again preoccupying the kitten) then head off to bed ..after that they should be pretty tired.. Leaving an item of your clothing in their bed can help settle them when they sleep too.. And leaving an interactive toy out for them at night will help preoccupy them a little..a laser toy might be a good one for the night time

The problem with the bedroom dilemma is that the bedroom is normally the one room a cat/kitten (especially one with separation anxiety) wants to be and will try even thing to get in there because they want to be surrounded with your scent it makes them comfortable and the one place in the house that holds the most concentrated level of scent is the bedroom and the bed so they will always want to get in there. Patience is also another thing you’ll need and a lot of it.. It can get incredibly frustrating but cats are creatures of habit so you need To stick to a regime and they will eventually follow it but there will be a lot of crying in between.. All of this anxiety should calm with age, neutering and confidence building playtime .. The best way to build a cats confidence is with valuable playtime wand toys are great just remember to allow him to catch the toy every now and again durning play a kitten can get frustrated otherwise and a frustrated bored kitten is a destructive one.. (Don’t leave any wand toys alone with him though these are for supervised playtime)

Make sure there are at least two cat scratchers in a high foot traffic area of the home too.. Has to be a high foot traffic area to make them want to leave their scent on the scratchers hidden in a corner means they agin won’t use it to it’s full advantage and your furniture could suffer…get one horizontal one ( normally flat or angled cardboard ones) and a vertical one too (rope pole one) Now what’s so important about these scratch pads and posts is that they have to be big enough for a growing kitten if the vertical one isn’t as long as the cats body completely stretched out they wont use it to full advantage so when you get one I wouldn’t bother with a small kitten one I’d invest in a very long /high adult one over a meter preferably the horizontal pads you can get away with being a little smaller but buy a large one if they have it… The reason I tell you to get both kinds of scratchers is that some cats have a preference as to which way they scratch and you need to satisfy that particular cats needs.. And the correct scratchers will help save your furniture! Scratching helps them scent mark their territory and the more they do this the more confident they will feel alone..

I know it’s a lot of info but it truly does help to start a kittens mental health off correctly so they make for a happy cat..
