My fiance and I just got a new kitten and he’s extremely hyper, and he is constantly meowing, all day and night. He has food, water, plenty of toys, a bed of his own and I do give him a ton of attention. He is 2 months old and I think he might just be missing his Mom or his brothers/sisters. I am not sure. He keeps getting into everything, jumping on my laptop keys, tearing at the curtains, blinds, the screen, any cord that exists on the floor. I don’t know what a good method of teaching him not to do those things is. I’ve had a cat before but never a kitten. I know some of this behavior is just kitten behavior but is there any good way to teach him “NO?” without like, spanking him or something? And also he is a orange and white kitten, I don’t know what to name him-anybody have some suggestions?

Warm welcome to TDK Mo & newbie kitten. You kitty sounds like a new kitten with lots of energy. You can click the pink tags on upper right for more chats on subject. There is a product called Feliway that may work for some of his catitude!

Hi Mo, and welcome to the fluffiest site on the internet! You’ll find a lot of help here, but it might take a few hours. Be patient ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve added a couple of tags to your thread, if you click on these, you might find some answers while you’re waiting.

It’s very normal for a kitten to be hyper. Just like a toddler ๐Ÿ™‚ and they both get into everything and anything. I have two six month old ladies and I swear they must think their names are “NO!” or “Dammit!” because they’re always finding something naughty and mischievious.

A laser pointer is a GREAT deterrent to keep Kitten from climbing the curtains. It will be a distraction at least temporarily ๐Ÿ™‚

Is there a way you could adopt a second one to be a companion? Often kittens will find trouble because there isn’t another playmate around. Two don’t cost much more than one, and it’s easily more than twice the fun.

Names? Marmalade ๐Ÿ™‚ Creamsicle. Buddy. Sam. Orange Whip.

    Welcome Mo to TDK…..

If you had another kitten in the mix, that would tire both of them out. Imagine trying to tell a 1=3 yr old baby ‘No’, sorry to laugh but it wouldn’t get you far except to give you reason to shake your head. Babies of all types are hyper and kittens especially ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks all. He has done so much better the past day. He has quieted down some and is starting to listen to me a lot better. I know you said it would be hard for him to listen to “no,” but he is doing quite well, and it seems like he might be getting to understand the meaning. I still don’t have a name for him though, I am very indecisive. ๐Ÿ™

He’ll let you know what his name is when it’s time.

If I ever got a orange and white cat I would name it “Pumpkin”

Shaking a jar of coins works as a great deterrent.

Kittens are a furry ball of joy. They get into mischeif sometimes, but all kittens do. You probably are going to have to get it a toy so he/she can be occupied. For example:(Laser pointer, a fake mouse toy, a play house etc.) Hope i helped a lot. Have fun with your new kitten.(:
