Hi everyone, I haven’t been around in awhile. Update: Sweet Pea is five months old and healthy. She’s a huge troublemaker though! We moved out of that toxic environment and I think we’re both happier. Anyhow, recently, as of actually like two hours ago, I “rescued” a kitten. My friend’s roommate was abusing his (the roommates) cat. And when the roommate found out I already have a cat he asked if I wanted her, and threatened to kill her. And because I needed to help her, I said yes. A few things I noticed right away (aside from the extreme shyness that’s probably both because of being abused and this being a new place) is that her left eye is incredibly watery. I’m taking her to the vet on Wednesday but I was wondering if there’s anything I can do until then. She also waddles when she walks. and I was told she was approx. four months but she’s the size of maybe a two month old kit, and even then she’s really little. Any advice would be helpful, but again, taking her to the vet Wednesday so I’ll know more things for sure then.

Eli, so thankful that you have taken over the care of the little kitten!! Warm compresses on her eye will soften any crust and keep it open. She could have some feline herpes, don’t worry that’s not a death sentence but it is contagious and your other cat may exhibit symptoms too. Sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes. L-lysine found in the over the counter pharmacy can be crushed and sprinkled over their wet food helps control symptoms. Once they are older, they rarely have flare up, unless stressed or sick from something else. Hopefully, she hasn’t been hurt or damaged in some way because she is walking wobbly from the other person hitting her. If she has a rare disorder like cerebellar hypoplasia, it usually isn’t fatal either, just means she has to have a little more attention that she doesn’t fall and hurt herself. Keep us posted on what the vet says please. She probably needs some good nutrition and extra love, and she will grow into a beautiful, loving cat!

Thank you for the eye info, I’ll definitely keep an eye on Sweet Pea too just in case! I’d do the warm compress but Lily (new kitty, still out on the fence about the name, though) only comes out of her hiding spot (under my bed) to potty (in her box!) and eat. Which, I was told she wasn’t potty box trained. So I must be a really good teacher if I can stick her in the box and she just goes by instinct. When she is out, she’s super calm. She seems curious enough but only in looking around and sniffing. She won’t go into things or onto things or under things the way Sweet Pea did (and does) when she’s exploring. Otherwise she still seems happier now than when I first saw her. Hopefully me and Sweet Pea are a good home for her.

    Thank you Eli,

Hugs and kisses to Miss Sweet Pea. You’ve both come a long way. 🙂

Miss Lily is trying to adjust to a non violent environment. Here’s link that may help you understand her behavior.

She probably was litter trained, but was afraid to come out and use the box. Cats are not stupid, but very trusting, loyal creatures. She will eventually learn that she has nothing to fear from you and become the cat she was meant to be–being allowed to bloom and grow without fear of abuse. I can’t thank you enough for stepping up and saving this girl. What’s one more cat, anyway? 😉

I’ve officially named her Jaffa 😀 My boyfriends favorite treats are Jaffa Cakes, and my sister and I were fighting over Callie vs Lily, so he named her Jaffa Cat. I’ll check out the link when I get home, for now I’ve just been letting her stay in my room without Sweet Pea, just to get her used to things and too many new things at once might frighten her more. Thanks for the advice:)

Update! Brought the kit to the vet yesterday. Jaffa IS four months. Her growth is just stunted. She’s 2.9lbs. No infection. Bc of her stunted growth she hasn’t grown into her head yet which is causing some congestion. Her back legs are considerably longer than her front legs which is why she walks funny. No ear mites, the dust was old scabbing. Healthy as a bug. Minus the stunted growth. Also gave me some dewormer to give her in two weeks, and she had her first shot and blood drawn (she doesn’t have kitty leukemia or heartworm). She did better than Sweet Pea, and Sweet Pea did pretty well. Jaffa doesn’t fight anything or even complain and it kinda breaks my heart. But she purred lots and snuggled inside my sweater. I think she likes me.

    Yes Eli,

I’m glad Miss Jaffa is healthy. What a relief!

Just like Miss Sweet Pea, Miss Jaffa knows she found the best hoomin meowmy ever (warm fuzzies to your BF for stepping up). You are a gentle, warm soul and enjoy ever purry, cuddly moment.
