    Hi all,

I’m staying abroad for a while and found a kitten about two weeks ago. When I found him, his eyes were still shut although he could walk a little and wobble around. I took him to the vet who said he was fine and around 2 weeks or nearly 2 weeks old. She told me I should feed him 1-2 ml every 2-3 hours, but when I did this he would always cry and scratch the box or try to suckle on my hand kneading his paws at the same time. I had read online that this wasn’t enough and upped it to aroumd 5-7 ml every 3-4 hours. Then he got diarrhea and also had blood in his stools, which she said was caused by overfeeding. He also has a bloated stomach after feedings which she said is normal but treated him for worms. The bloody diarrhea still didnt stop so he’s now on a different medication. Has anyone ever had any experience with this? I know she’s a vet but I’m not sure I trust what she’s saying..she told me to still feed him 1-2 ml every 2-3 hrs even though he’s nearly 4 weeks olds?! Also, I’ve been stimulating him after or before every feed but for the last few days he’s been going by himself..i go to take him out of the box and the sheets are drenched in urine or stools..is this normal? As if this wasn’t enough for the poor little guy to cope with, he’s scratched his nose and cheek up and sucked his arm raw ๐Ÿ™

Oh and he’s on Beaphar kitty milk and I feed him with a bottle of the same brand. Before this he was on a lactose free baby formula that the doctor reccomended to me. Thankfully my mother visited from england and could bring me proper kitty milk!
So so sorry for the essay, I’m just so worried about him..

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help x

Hi Gabrielle, sounds like you have your hands full with your kitten, but so glad you found him! He could possibly have a one celled parasite such as coccidia or giardia that is giving him the diarrhea also, which would need a different medication other than the one given to him for worms. I hear what you are saying not trusting the vet, but what are you to do? If you can get some pasteurized goat’s milk it would be an alternative to the kitten milk. In the states, it’s in the cold milk section or in the baking aisles of most groceries or WalMarts. In the baking section, it’s in cans as condensed so if you find it, add water 1 to 1. It has been a miracle worker for me raising kittens. It is lactose free, unlike cow’s milk. I am going to post some links for you to look over and hopefully you will find info to help you with his care.

Hi Laura.. I know, it’s so horrible! Well.. I’m no longer a kitten mama..he passed away about two hours ago ๐Ÿ™ I don’t think it was from the problems I wrote about in my first post. We had to take him to the vet for a follow up appt today and I think he died of heat stroke.. When we got home he was limp and weak, bless him. I feel so bad for him ๐Ÿ™ He had actually started getting better with his diarrhea since I had cut the amount of formula powder I was using in half..so if you have that problem maybe try that?

Kittyzee, thank you for your reply and help.. I had wanted to give him goats milk from the beginning but I haven’t been able to find it where I’m staying at the moment unfortunately.. As I said above, he passed away this evening.. thanks again!

So sorry for your loss Gabrielle. ๐Ÿ™ At the very least for his all-too-short life your kitty knew love and comfort. RIP in the Meadow, sweetie.

Oh no Gabrielle, I am so sorry! Please know your little kitten knew only love, comfort and nurturing while in your care. Sometimes kittens pass away and there just are no reasons why, but it doesn’t ease the heartbreak. It’s the fate of the rescuer~~smiling through heartbreak and tears, and bravely rescue on!

OH So very sorry Gabrielle ! My heart breaks for you so bad ๐Ÿ™ . I know this is what we have to fear when we try to help these little babies . I try to keep in mind — they would have died a lot sooner if we did nothing at all. At least we tried and tried our best ! I pray that God sees your broken heart, and brings comfort to you knowing you really tried to help the little one. There are not a lot of people that would care as all of us do, and they could turn their back and walk away, and not think twice of letting these babies die alone. This little baby died in the care of a loving person, and he knew that ! He will rest in peace and not have to struggle any longer now. Just remember — he felt all of your LOVE ! And he will always be in your heart. May GOD Bless you !

Thank you both so much, your kind words have helped a lot. I was really blaming myself yesterday, but I’m feeling a lot better today. My husband buried him in the little garden opposite our apartment last night so I can look from my balcony and see his little spot. My 2 year old daughter keeps asking for him and doesn’t understand, bless her. She loved him so much and was always telling him ‘Calm down, it’s alright kitten’ when he used to cry while I was getting his milk ready lol. Feel so sad for her as our other cat wants absolutely nothing to do with her! But seriously, thank you guys so so much! x
