A good place to start (I’m hoping you already have) is by clicking on the “fleas” tag on your post & reading through earlier discussions. Lots of good advice there.

Any advice about Adams flea and tick spray for cats?

Not sure what would be best in your situation, but if you’re looking at something to apply directly to your pet, I would recommend seeing your veterinarian. A significant number of products sold ‘off the shelf’ can be hazardous to your cat/s.

I’ve had a couple of discussions with my veterinarian, and she recommends Revolution over Advantage, Advantage II or Frontline. Revolution kills fleas & keeps the eggs from hatching, also treats/kills ear mites, heartworm, roundworm, and other parasites.

Speaking as someone who once had a cat hospitalized for more than a week from liver malfunction due to a cheap ‘off the shelf’ treatment (luckily, she survived), and a cat who suffered a chemical skin burn from a ‘natural’ ‘off the shelf’ flea product… I’d rather pay a vet bill up front and have my pets healthy.

*Sigh* ok. I panicked. I dont have a flea infestation, just a minor flea problem. It took some calming down on my part- I after all have not seen a flea in almost 30 years. So Scotch has the fleas, of course it is safe to assume the others have them too but this isnt as big of a problem as I once determined. What freaked me out is that I have been bitten and gotten quite nasty reactions to them. Turns out they look just like the bites from last fall that I attributed to the arrival of squads of spiders from out doors. I am allergic to their bites as well. I’ve read some articles. Fought with the husband over the use of Adams Flea and Tick- I will not use it. I dont like chemicals! But found lots of natural remedies such as DE. Thank you all for posting about the DE. And I will be obtaining a bag post haste Monday!

As mentioned above, “off the shelf” flea products don’t have such a great history. Last summer and winter, I used Pet Armour (a lower-cost version of Frontline available at WalMart). But, unfortunately, this year Frontline and Pet Armour seem to be ineffective against the fleas! For the past three months, we have used Adams’ spot on for our dogs, and it seems to be working and, please Lord, let it continue, no ill-effects on either dog! Just something to keep in mind!
