Hi I rescued a 4 week old kitten 2 days ago. The people were feeding her hard dry cat food. I brought her home she was doing well eating soft kitten food. Today she was trying to poop and was crying with a very hard belly. Nothing was coming out. We gave her some Pyrantel (correct dose). She got alot of poop out running her bottom under warm water. She is now vomiting and very sleepy. IS THIS NORMAL????? I am a first time kitten owner. ANY ADVICE?????

I don’t think this is normal, but after checking, it seems that vomiting is a side effect of Pyrantel. It only kills roundworms and not the other parasites you need to be worrying about such as hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. At her age, she should really see a vet to start her on her first round of shots and for a general checkup. I am not fond of starting kittens on hard food, but wet food mixed with a little formula or goat’s milk for the extra hydration and nutrition. She is only 4 weeks old, and most kittens are not fully weaned until 8 to 10 weeks.

I would get an appointment with the vet ASAP, and if she gets lethargic and non responsive, an ER vet NOW.
