    BEAN

    Our resident kitten just got back from the vet yesterday morning with a very good bill of health. {Minor bacterial issue that she’s taking antibiotics for~} The vet is very sure of her potential longevity and applauds us on her health and wellbeing, so it’s time to name the baby!

    We’re considering a few for this sweet little lady:

    Poppy {plant}
    Allegra {music}
    Aiofe {EE-fa; Irish: beauty, also lover of Cuchulainn}
    Cait Sidhe; Sidhe for short {KITE shee; a particular type of faery cat}
    Pandora {After the Anne Rice character}

    I’ve a vote each for Aiofe and Sidhe, with a personal fondness for both Allegra and Poppy.

    Thoughts? Votes? New ideas in a similar vein? Let’s hear ’em!

    Just because I think it’s worthwhile to note… I take Poppy and Valerian oils to help me sleep sometimes when my mental condition isn’t stable enough to sleep without night terrors. This little girl is bound to be a blessing in that way, with her sweet little purrs and general cuddliness!

    I love the Irish Gaelic names; try “calling” each name as we remember that the name is needed to call your cat if heaven forbid she should get lost.

    WOW! I LOVE ALL OF THEM!! It’s going to be hard to name her with choices like that.

    My little Peso answers to his name already! He’s named after a character on the cartoon the Octonauts that my youngest granddaughter loves.

    I agree with KJ that LilBean is purrfect but I’m partial to Aiofe. Here’s my other submissions:

    1. Freya: (Norse) Goddess of beauty and love.
    2. Nadira (Arabian) Precious.
    3. Brianna (Irish) fortitude and strength.

    Good Luck

    She answers to a few of them, lol!

    So so far, that’s
    2 votes for Aiofe,
    1 for Allegra,
    1 for Poppy,
    I’ve a write-in for Lady with 2 votes, and a few for “LilBean” “Classy Bean” and assorted similar.

    “Bean” is probably going to be a nickname regardless, but as the only female in the house, I think she deserves something quite special. πŸ™‚

    I love the name Aiofe but trying to call that several times in a row is difficult.
    Gaelic names
    Ciara – dark-haired -( kee + ra”) she is a black cat
    Saoirse –(seer-sha) freedom – you gave her freedom from being a feral.
    I’m sure you will find the perfect name for Li’l Bean.

    We’re tossing Wednesday into the mix, for Wednesday Addams πŸ˜€

    And ooh I did think about Saoirse, I just wasn’t sure if it’d fit on a kitten tag πŸ™‚

    Goodness so many name choices!

    Now I do have some secret fave names (literary) for grrrl kits (the two kits that have been in my life one at a time were/are male) but they’re secret LOL.

    I like Aiofe and Gaelic names, but you might consider that kit’s name will often be mispronounced and you will be having to teach peeps how to pronounce it.

    I once read, can’t recall where, that pets more easily respond to names that end in an (EEE) sound. This site alone proved this theory wrong though.

    Good luck!

    JMO I really like Cait Sidhe & Saoirse. I’m sure what ever you choose will be perfect for her.

    Does the winner get an autographed picture of Her Highness Princess Fluffy Butt?

    I may very well be wrong (and probably am) but purrhaps if one’s suggested name is chosen one gets to be wee bean’s godpurrent. Meaning responsible for lots of pressies and in some religions “moral” education. πŸ˜‰

    Well, I’m out on the moral education. Hedonism doesn’t provide the necessary morals for a wee kit to venture forth in the world.

    Yeah, I’m with you there PG. I have my own ideas about “world view” and will doubtless have to sadly withdraw my candidacy. πŸ˜‰

    As evidence, I named my kit after a totally amoral character. And if grrrl kits ever come into my life, I’d like to name them “Suky Tawdry” and/or “Jenny Diver” from srsly amoral work (crime pays and very well) – John Gay’s “Beggar’s Opera.” Which was later adapted by Brecht/Weil into “Threepenny Opera” with “Mack the Knife” and all that. πŸ™‚

    Lady with 2 votes, and a few for β€œLilBean” β€œClassy Bean” and assorted similar.
    3 votes for Wednesday/Morticia
    1 for Cadence/Sonata {she YOWLS}

    Even though I would have to kindly decline the opurrtunity to be godpurrent (see explanation above), I’ll throw one more into the hat.

    If you like “Addams Family”, how about “Tish” which is Gomez’ nickname for Morticia?

    Loved the original series, with Carolyn Jones/John Astin. Not the film version, although Christina Ricci was purrfect as Wednesday. A grrrl I can relate to hehehe! πŸ˜‰

    I’m pretty fond of a lot of these names… really want to get a shorter “short list” and see which one suits her when her personality starts coming in, lol~

    We were thinking that if we go with Morticia it’d be either Tia or Tish, yes. πŸ™‚

    Go Tish!

    You might want to pick a name soon, although Bean still works for me. πŸ˜‰

    At least the Nazis hated Brecht & Weill, which is a good point in their favour.

    I’ve been happier with names that end in a vowel, for calling them. NadiA… RenzO… LiviA… (I miss Nadja and Renzo so much…).

    Lagatta, it’s great and thanks goodness that Weill, being Jewish, went to the US.

    Way off topic, but back in uni I was registering for Theatre Lab and my advisor “assured” me that the year’s production was “Threepenny Opera” which he felt that I would be fantastic in as I could wonderfully carry off a 20’s look and can sing/dance. They did do a Brecht production “Coriolanus” more girls that guys in class, and of course I played a guy. A year of drudgery. I was not taking the class the year they did “The Beggar’s Opera” but no one in the cast could carry a tune. 18th century costumes were however awesome! Much nicer than the Roman style burlap sacks and slippery sandals that we were “privileged” to wear!

    Oh and I’m watching another excellent mini-series, “Genius” based on life and work of Einstein. Glad that he got to the US, too!

    Hi Kincaid – I’ve just seen your baby and wow is she adorable! So many of these names are great. I like the name Poppy!
    When you decide on a name, would you be so kind as to submit her pic to TDK? It would be awesome to see her featured!

    heya Joan! πŸ™‚
    As soon as Baby Girl lets us know which name she likes; unfortunately she’s rejected most of the ones in this thread :/ ; I’ll be sure to submit a nice pic!

    My Love is trying to help me as much as he can, but unfortunately, she might just end up with a descriptive name at this rate…

    Sometimes they have to grow into their names. That’s how LilBit Guy got his name. I was going to call him Mitchum (after Robert Mitchum) but he was 3 wks. old and sat in the palm of my hand so I said he was “just a lilbit of a kit.” πŸ™„

    PG that’s how my big Calico got HER name! She smacked me in the face or hand every time I tried a Latin or Roman name on her and DEMANDED to be called Calypso. She very grudgingly answered to “Callie” eventually.

    well, we went through and six different iterations of “The List” and the winner is: Lilith!

    Our baby is a sweet little angel when she wants to be, and a howling demon she gets in a snit. So it just seemed appropriate. πŸ™‚ Thanks to EVERYONE who contributed and tried to help us match her purrsonality to a suitable name!
