According to “the rules,” he has to be officially adopted before he can be neutered. About a week ago I asked the staff if I could pay to have him neutered at the spay/neuter clinic and then have him come back to the pound, even knowing that someone else might benefit from that if they adopted him before I could. I was told I could not do that. He could not return to the pound after being neutered. The way it will work, God willing, is that on Saturday the 24th H’s furniture will be cleared from my spare bedroom. On Sunday the 25th, I will go to the pound and finalize the adoption, which will involve completing some more paperwork and paying the adoption fee. On Monday the 26th, the pound staff will transport him to the clinic and he will be neutered. When he is ready to leave after the operation, I will get him and bring him home. I will probably keep him sequestered a bit longer than I otherwise would to give the hormones time to clear from his body.
Azdeb, there’s no telling what those people were thinking. When they told the staff why they were surrendering him, the staff said that his aggression might make him unadoptable and he would have to be euthanized. If I understand the story correctly, the owners went back and forth between “go ahead” and “well, give him a chance.” Fortunately, things ended up on the “chance” side.
I haven’t made an adoption plan for Greta yet because I fully expect someone else to take that little sweetheart home before I am ready to do so.
