I have had this kitten for 4 days and she hasn’t pooped once. She is about 2 weeks old, abandoned by her mother. She eats plenty but I think her stomach hurts her. She is still walking around bu she is constantly whining. I tried vegetable oil butt it only gave her hiccups. Anything else I can try? Please help.

    Hi Brylee,

Thanks for rescuing the wee kit. Two things-KMR concentrate has a tendency to give kits constipation and liquid KMR does the opposite.

Here in TDKland, we recommend Goats’ milk for kittens. Cats are lactose intolerant and can’t digest cows milk. Goats’ milk is full of nutrients, probiotics and gentler on their tummies. This can also regulate the poop. You can find it in the dairy section or the concentrate in the baking aisle. Mix the concentrate 1:1 with water or pedylite. Some mineral oil in her formula can usually help her poop. You can put a dab of Neosporin on her bum if she gets sore.

It’s been a while since she pooped so I would call the vet. It’s possible she has hard stool that she can’t pass. A quick note-do not use clumping, scented litter. Kits will try to eat everything and clumping litter could create intestinal problems. Scented litter usually offends wee kit noses.

If, at any time, she seem lethargic put a dab of Karo syrup or honey in their mouth.

Here’s a video on the triangle method.

Good luck and keep in touch

PG gave good advice, but make sure when you give oil (olive, mineral) it’s in the forumla or food, NOT BY ITSELF BY MOUTH. Kittens can choke or aspirate this oil, coating the lungs causing aspiration pneumonia. It just concerned me as you said she had hiccups. Make sure you burp her after she eats too.

She pooed about 2 hours ago! I didn’t have time to get the goats milk but it seems like i didn’t need it. We just kept feeding a little at a time and rubbing her lower belly. She is more than happy now. Thank you!

I have a question… someone at my work found a newborn kitten. Eyes and ears still closed, scab from umbilical cord still fresh…i think the mother was moving the babies but anyways this guy thought it was abandoned so he took it and it was freezing when i got it. Ive been feeding it and pooping it every few hours and a week later its eyes are finally opening but all of a sudden it wont poop? 2 days now. Should i take it to a vet?

With my kitten she wouldn’t poo but every 3-4 days and she was healthy, sometimes if they had been clogged up for a while they will poop a lot once they get it going again, but on average 2-3 days should be okay. More than that, i recomend taking her to the vet. Since she is so young, I assume you’re bottle feeding, which is only liquids so it will take some time to create some solids in her bowels. hope this helps 🙂
