I took my kitten to the vet’s office, and she had been treated for upper respiratory infection. After using all of her medicine, she was back to eating and drinking like she used to. But she was still sleeping around and not being her usual active self.

I then noticed that she was breathing strangely. Her stomach was going up and down pretty heavily, while she breathed through her nose heavily as well. It’s like rapid heavy breathing? I took her back to the vet, and he told me that she was pushing on her lungs to keep on breathing and gave me zeniquin 25mg to give to her. I was to give her 1/2 of a pill every day. 5 pills= 10 half pills. Her first half pill was of July 30, 2015. On August 2, 2014 she was to get 4th half pill. So she’ll have 6 days left of that medicine…But she was still laying around and breathing heavily still!!! Her gums were pale as well.

I was going to take her to the emergency vet that day before I went to work. I dropped by my aunts house and she was under the bed. I got her out and felt that her body wasn’t feeling warm. I tried to see if she would eat or drink a bit, but when I placed her at her food bowls, it’s like her legs gave under her. I then placed her in my lap, she stayed there for a moment before crying out and and got out of my lap to lay on the floor. Then my aunt picked her up, she just cried again so I told my aunt to place her on the bed. And she did, my kitten (Isabella) just laid there for a moment and I watched her take her last breath…

I was wondering if anybody can tell me what did this to her? Did the Upper Respiratory infection affect her lungs? Or did she have an underlying heart condition?

Also, I’m extremely torn right now…I know it’s too soon to get another kitten. But it just feels strange not to have my attention and love attracted by a lovable kitten running down my aunts hall with My aunt’s cocker spaniel… I just have this empty feeling in my chest and I’m gushing over the adoptable kittens online in a shelter near me, that looks so similar to her. She was such a beautiful kitten..is it wrong to get a kitten that looks similar to her?

Sorry you lost your little baby. If other little kittens are appealing to you,get one. Some lucky little kit would love to have a forever home with you. From your post you tried your best with your other baby. You can rescue another deserving little one. You’ll both benefit, just my opinion. My little one died recently and I would like another, but my poor husband doesn’t want to right now. His little heart got broken too when the baby died. Hugs to you.

Lauren, I’m so sorry for the loss of little Isabella. Don’t blame yourself for her death. She knew you loved her and provided her with comfort and care while she was on this earth. Kittens die sometimes and we never know the reasons why. I think even though you are still grieving for her, it’s okay to want another kitten to shower your love upon. No need to feel guilty about that either. Critter lover is right, some lucky little kitten would love to have a forever home with you. You have our blessings!

I suspect wee Isabella had Fading Kitten Syndrome. Regardless, Miss Isabella had all the love and care you could give her. I know your heart aches and nothing I say can help but know that you are in my thoughts.

I’m so sorry. I had a dear little black baby named Mélanie (I love black cats) who died soon after someone brought her over. I had a vet appointment lined up before I even took her, but it was probably too late. I remember her, decades later.

I was heartbroken when my kitten Darla died. Still miss her so much. When she was very ill and I knew I had to let her go, I promised her that I would always do the best I could for her sister and give her the most perfect life possible. When I get sad then that is what I remember. Dru is probably a little over-indulged, but she’s my beautiful girl…..what more can I say? 🙂
