I love Mutts – they have always been conscious of homeless animals.

Thanks for the link! I will have to work on Lacy’s, I mean, Leela’s story!

Great Joan…did Miss Leela evolve from Lacy when she became your diva-kit?
Thinking about sharing my trio’s story too!

Adding this link/pic again in case it gets shuffled away! Valentines Day is next month, hint:

*sing-song* “Little Pink Sock, Little Pink Sock!” Oh, how Mooch loves his little pink sock!

Yes, Leela was named Lacy when she was at the shelter. So if Mutts prints a story about a kitten found in the rain, brought to a shelter, and named Lacy, that’s “our” Leela!

    Hey JK,

I’m just doing up a story on Dorry and how he came to own me and choosing pics to send in. If he gets chosen I owe you a huge thanks! He’ll probably have mega competition but it’s worth a try. Not sure if entries are limited to US only, whatever. Just giving a shout out to the shelter he came from makes it all good.

Well I did it and it got through pics and all, which is the first step. Of course the work that I was supposed to do got set aside, but what’s more important kitties or work? *She asked hypothetically*

One way to make sure every shelter story told by a “TDKr” gets recognized: put it on this thread!

    BTW Joan,

Interesting what names kitties “come” with. My boy was named Chi and his fur bro was named Tai. Tai-Chi. Right! Well that one didn’t last long. Dorry’s Mom’s name is Venus and from her pic it is easy to see why, a beauty of a Mom cat, the entire litter was stunning especially Dorry (but I’m not in any way prejudiced LOL). And they all went to furrever homes!

Joan, you mean the entire submission? Pics and all?

Sure, KJ, why not? Or you can put an abridged version here.

My sister fosters cats and volunteers at the local shelter. Kittens and cats who come in together are often given names that are ‘grouped’. For instance, a group could be named after flowers or herbs. My sister also names groups alphabetically, i.e. 3 kitties coming in together all have names starting with the letter ‘A’, and so on. Come to think of it, I’ll have to ask her what letter they are on by now!

At my vet’s they had a litter up for adoption and all had names related to sushi or coffee. They all found forever homes and I got to “pounce” on the last one of the bunch – the cutest black kit ever (except for Leela and Comet of course, oh and Basement Cat) named Java.

OK so here’s my submission, along with pics – story is adapt from “TDK” – had to cut drastically as limit is approx. 100 wds. This is probably the only place where it will be “featured” so all can enjoy more pics of the boy – or not. I hope that others will contribute so that I will feel less like I am “blowing my own horn”.

Dorian Gray Esq. was adopted him from a wonderful local shelter, Cause4Paws. They brought several available kitties over. A sleek self-assured silvery tabby snuggled up on my sofa for a nap. He had chosen his furever home – mine. He is named for Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” But I call him Dorry. Just like the fictional character, at times my kitty is “wicked,” or cat-like. Most obviously when he wants anything, such as my total attention. As his servant, I willingly comply. And like the fictional character, who remained young as his picture aged, my boy still seems kittenish. “Purrhaps” there is something in a name.

Bravo, great shelter story – gets my vote! Dorry photographs very well!

This is not an official entry, (& I have to get pics together) but here goes.
    June, 2008
It was a dark and stormy night. A tiny kitten was looking for a dry place. A kind person took the kitten to the shelter. She needed round-the-clock care. We met her at her foster home and fell in love. When the kitten was ready to be adopted, she went back to the shelter and was named Lacy. We were grieving the loss of two elderly cats within five months. Ready to love a new generation, we adopted Lacy, and re-named her Leela. The dark and stormy night is now a bright new day filled with sunshine!

Wonderful Joan, love the “classic” lead-in. Very emotive, much more than my effort.

I agree wholeheartedly about this. sadly, most people are cowards and claim they do this, but don’t. i’ve gotten a lot of flack from people for standing up for what’s truly right, not what’s convienient or kiss arse, n u know what…i don’t care. if i hear soemone say ive changed their life and inspired them, and they go on and do good and that goes on and so forth, then i know that’s all that matters.

Joan, Miss Leela is so adorable as a baby diva and equally adorable as a grown-up diva!!! I can see why Dorry has her photo in his locker. And as his screen saver. 🙂
