Mega-sales, returns, and peeps lining up for deals of the century! Many retailers now offer Boxing Week, Boxing Month, purrhaps Boxing Year. But kits and boxes – that’s a whole other thing.

    Hi Efurryone,

KJ, I love the NYC kits and low income kits.

I had the audacity to recycle some boxes this week. Of course, with the other boxes fortunately my gang didn’t seem to notice they were gone!

I have no special interest in shopping (except for victuals, of course, and bicycle stuff) but I do need a new warm coat so I am perusing the specials. Remember that many bargains are fake… I’m in no hurry; don’t think I need anything today.

Boxing Day is also the feast of St. Stephen, an early Christian martyr. Boxes of food and other things were distributed to servants and needy people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day

I feel like staying home with Livia… perhaps I’ll meet a friend for coffee nearby.

That’s a great link, Lagatta. I didn’t know that until I read about on Cat Calendar!

It started on St. Steven’s Day so the churches opened their alms boxes and distributed money to the poor. Then employers gave their servants a “Christmas box” the day after Christmas so they could off with their families.

I learn something new everyday ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Have a happy~

I’m not a shopper by choice either. But I need to buy a dark-coloured coat soon, because of another sad event.

My Mum was ill for several months of the year, and we lost her a few days before Christmas. She was 93 . . . which isn’t a bad age to get to. But it was far, far too soon for my lovely Mum.

Given half a chance, she’ll be right there at the Rainbow Bridge, covered with kitty kisses and cuddles.

Good morning – boxes, boxes, this crew doesn’t really care either way, though Comet loves his baskets.
We had a nice Christmas – hubby’s family came up. It was a nice enough day that we were able to have a fire and also keep the doors open. I made a ham with ginger ale and pineapple in the slow cooker and cheese and spinach pierogis. I made a chocolate cream pie for dessert as well as brownies and chocolate cookies, yum!
Today is a quiet day with some laundry and cleanup to be done. I’m hoping to get a walk in before the rain comes later this afternoon – need to work off all the goodies. Santa filled candy dishes I didn’t know I had with assorted chocolates and nuts!

I’m sorry for your loss CWS. It’s hard to lose a parent but she’s at the Bridge now waiting for her furry ones.

CWS, I’m so very sorry for the loss of your Mum. It’s a bit comforting to picture our loved ones visiting the Rainbow Bridge and crossing it with their reunited furry friends.

Thank you. It’s very hard to lose someone at this time of year, when the rest of the world is celebrating! You feel you have to keep quiet, so as not to upset anyone else.

But Mum was always a cat lover, as was her own mother before her. The earliest photos often have cats in as well as people! And Mum’s Elvis had gone only a few weeks before, so I’m sure he’ll be helping Mum find her way.

I’m sure your Mum’s Elvis will show her the way, and they will cross the Bridge together.

CWS, I’m sorry for your loss of your Mum. And if you feel the need to talk, this is the place. You will not be upsetting anyone. We understand.

JJ, seems like we might be getting similar weather. But in my n’hood supposed to be way bad as in “freezing rain warning in effect.” It is awful cold, like -22C w/strong wind chill factoring in. Guess that’s what being further North bring us. *Sigh* So I raced home from DIY class at gym and sported my cleated boots. Nothing srs as yet. But glad to be indoors nonetheless.

I’m not one to be doing the Boxing Day standing in line thing no way, no how. Then there’s online where my fave knit site is having srs sale!!! Will I keep myself in check? It’s on for several wks so hmmm …

Speaking of keeping self in check. PG, you might get a laugh out of this. In gym training room there was an awesome looking guy. Could have been one of Ragnar’s bros! Copper-coloured hair pulled back in man bun (but on him it works,) neat beard, not to mention fantabulous body! I maintained my composure. And did not mar my family escutcheon by acting like a hoyden (Poldark overload!) But it was an effort! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Did some cooking on arrival at home. If/when inclination takes me I do up a bunch of single-size stuff and then I’m done for a time. Plus d/w gets a workout as it’s envious of the micro which gets used more often.

So I bought Dorry a new ‘nip-filled fishy stuffy. Of course he prefurrs his old Cecil the lion stuffy. Good thing that I did not trash it.

Very quiet in Cafรฉ. I do see loads of boxes, some of them moving slightly, some of them with purzz emanating from within. Dare I investigate?

Weather peeps describing all the n’hoods as “treacherous” with “hundreds” of accidents. ๐Ÿ™ warnings to all (esp drivers) to stay in. Flights cancelled too. Someone I know left yest for Italy/Israel, good that it was not today.

Now if (as promised) temps rise by tomorrow should be OK. I dread this weather as skating is not for me. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ My cleated boots might very well be called into service.

That, and leaving a bit earlier for what is almost guaranteed to be way boring spin class (sub.) Same deal yest, but a workout nonetheless. DIY today was awesome. Plus fave Wed nite instructor subs Thurs a.m. ๐Ÿ™‚

Prob good that I caught up on cooking/storing. As what with hols might get slight onslaught of translations for project, the paying one.

And did some knitting while watching PBS “Call the Midwife” special which I cried through. Very moving, love the series. Nurse/nursing sisters in one of London’s poorest n’hoods in the 50s-60s. Special saw staff going to rural South Africa to help save a clinic. Apartheid laws in full force. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ But things worked out somehow.

Plus going to bed at 5 a.m. was not in my best interests. Excuse was that I was rewinding yarn ball that was rife with knots. Took over 4 hrs. Early night planned (which I keep saying.)

That sounds like a wonderful day, JJ. Yes, I need to swim again. The pool was closed for 10 days because the boiler broke down. We went down last Thursday just to give a shot. Brrrrr!

We had that wind Friday thru Sunday, KJ. It brought a bitter cold but we’re suppose to be at 58f/14c by Friday.

I admire your fortitude at the gym. Alas, I am a sassy wench! ๐Ÿ˜›

We are ready and willing to listen CWS. It’s tough when sad events happen around the holidays but we’re here.

Thanks, all, for your kind words. At the moment I’m having up days and down days, still coming to terms. Or trying to. I probably will bend an ear or two before long! X

I’m most willing to listen CWS.

PG, after you mentioned “The Man in the High Castle” I looked it up. Not having Netflix or any equivalents I will have to go the old-fashioned route as in reading the book. Other peeps seem to have same idea as most copies out in n’hood library. ‘Cept one, which I reserved. Topic might be a bit intense for me as wondering what happened to “H’s’ plan to “rid the world” of all “undesirables.” I need not say more ‘cept putting my fist through my wall would not be a plan.

I am also reading my way through all the books that I can find by Brit mystery writer Sophie Hannah. Awesome psych thrillers, sorta along lines of Hitchcock. 2 books were turned into Brit TV series and amazing how lead actors look exactly as describe. I tend to mentally”cast” any books that I read with actors. Don’t think that I’m the only purrson who does this.

Strange, we had boiler prob at gym too. As in fire! And peeps complaining that pool has been chillingly frigid of late.

My condolences on the loss of your mom, CWS.

Sounds like everyone is having a peaceful holiday season. Us too…been looking at potential houses on line. We’ve seen one in person and will probably see another tomorrow. Hoping to buy before interest rates rise too much.

I’ve got the sweetest gray girl kitty sleeping on my lap right now. :).
