Forecast for tomorrow is – rain !

Can anyone back this article up? http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/cutestuff/75779437/squirrels-are-fat-because-northern-hemisphere-weather-is-warm
LOL KJ, I am sorry I have to disappoint you but that is not how umbrellas work in the Southern Hemisphere – mainly because we are on the top of the world.

I love your map, MS. Very interesting to look at things that way. And FL is at the top of the US!

I like that umbrella too, KJ. So, hubby and I have a routine that really works for us as far as gift giving. No guessing what the other wants or trying to surprise the other. With money tight, we mainly buy for ourselves using money relatives give us for our birthdays or Christmas. But we’ll give each other an idea for a little something to wrap up so the kids see us giving each other gifts. This Christmas I told hubby, “I really need an umbrella. Mine disappeared. Something cute like leopard print or polka dots….NOT BLACK.” Guess what poor hubby showed up with (and asked me to wrap…lol)…a BLACK umbrella. Oh my, I feel guilty making him look so bad with that story. :). He really is a wonderful person…details aren’t his thing. And I didn’t feel guilty at all having him return the umbrella after I’d been so explicit. Still don’t have an umbrella…lol. But the kids got them in their stockings, so I can share theirs.

Morning all! Looks like we may have more rain here, temps are cool for the next few days! I love that map too, MS ….. Of course FL should be at the top of the nation ! Lol
EC, I have the cutest fun print umbrella and rain boots to match …. Cant remember where I got them, but they werent expensive …. Steinmart or Marshalls – somewhere like that …

Busy week, as we prepare to fly to va to meet the new in laws this weeken …. Have a great Monday all!

MS, that gif is beyond awesome, I’d like a screensaver raining down like that.
A new word for me – I can add “pluviophile” to my curriculum vitae! Which sounds just a tad naughty! I love rain, esp when I’m in a moody mood as then the weather suits it, which is called by fancy literary term “pathetic fallacy.” Hehehe.
OK re umbrellas in Southern Hem and tks for map – BUT – I was informed that for physics/geo reasons that water circles down drain in opposite direction from Northern Hem. Is this another myth?
I will have to rsch n’hood squirrels, ideally with cell camera in tow so that I can post millions of comparative pics – NOT – but squirren in article is to put it politely – portly. We have loads of squirrels in n’hood and to me they don’t look that big, they also run real fast and get a good workout, I guess to escape predators (ie cars mainly, but sigh also kits.) Some diss squirrels as rats with furry tails, but those floofy tails win some of us over to their side.
Weather peeps threatened rain/freezing rain and today dry out and sunny. But way cold. And blustery as some peeps lost power due to falling trees. Thankfully not me.
That stunning umbrella should by rights (what rights?) be mine. My b-day is only a short while away (right, like almost a year!) LOL
Is there a term for peeps who are “terrified of rain that freezes over as G-d fobid one can fall on one’s a$$?” There should be!

Good Morning–now I know what I’m really called–and like KJ says, just sounds a tad bit naughty–a pluviophile! That is surely me as I find it restful and regenerating. I am an introvert by nature anyway, and rain after many sunny days takes me down a few notches to where I don’t always feel like I have to be outside doing something, and I can relax. It also may have something to do with being married to a farmer who feels like he always has to be doing something outside. His father saw me sitting outside once a long time ago as he was driving down the back road and commented that he wished that was all he had to do, sit and read! Seriously–I never let him catch me again!
    👿
ECBl, I envy you your relationship with your in-laws, *sigh*, for me it just was not to be.
It is COLD here today–6*!! With ice. Sun is shining though and I’ll take it! Later — as Avery is on the move!!!

Oh and forgot to say OH NO about David Bowie! Such a shock! AND I saw last week I think that Natalie Cole died also. It was in my news feed and I am shocked that the entertainment world, news people, whatever never made mention of her at all. What a loss the music world has suffered with them leaving us so soon!!

Good Morning!!! Love the cute kitty pixs today and what a cool umbrella!! I have been glued to the TV watching THE PA FARM SHOW… Look forward to it each year. I really dislike January, but watching this makes is less disliked….. I have never been there and read that parking was a nightmare this weekend due to clear weather. People waited for an hour only to find NO place to park. Yesterday they showed my favorite, being the Draft Horse hitch where 2-6 horses pull a wagon and compete. I wrote down the names of the farm’s competing and if they won 1st. 2nd. place etc. There was a 6 horse hitch, 4 horse hitch, team hitch and unicorn hitch. One family got 1st place in three classes and 2nd in another! WOW!!! After watching this show for 3 years now, I am getting familiar with the families and farm names. It’s SO exciting for me!! I got to see some of it on the big screen TV at work right after I got out. Then it played again at 9pm and in the middle of the night! LOL I am ADDICTED….. I also enjoy seeing the Rabbit Hop competition. The rabbits run down a runway hoping over all these hurdles. I even remember the rabbits from last year that returned again this year. SO cute!!! The littlest bunny seems to jump the highest and made all the hurdles. Awww…. They go fast too! One little bunny hopped right up onto it’s owner as she was kneeling down. Rabbits remind me so much of our kitties. SO soft, cuddly and snuggly! Awww… Now I get to look forward to the “Tractor Square Dance” another day this week.
I have a thawed turkey breast I need to cook today, so best get at it.
Hope you all have a lovely day!

    Hi everybody,

I love the rain and still splash in the puddles. I have an umbrella somewhere but since I don’t care if I get wet or have a coif, I have no idea where it is today. Your map is cool, MS.

I fell asleep in the recliner and now I have a kink in my neck. At some point, I woke up but decided the bedroom was to far away. Ha

It below freezing this morning but we’re suppose to get up to 40f/4c and 52f/11c on Wednesday. We are lucky that we get lots of sunshine-up to 300 days the year.

The fear of rain is Ombrophobia and the fear of falling on ice/snow is Pagophobia. I’m making up a new phobia just for KJ and it’s Pagoombrophobia. Wow-that’s a lot of thinking for a Monday a.m.

The National Western Stock Show and Rodeo is in town and runs Jan. 9-24. It’s the 110th anniversary so there are a lot of special events this year. The parking is terrible and the shuttle are small and is packed and rarely on time.

I need more coffee. Cya l8r and have a happy ~

Love the word you made up for KJ, PG. I don’t think I’ve ever had a word created for me before…

Got creative for my lunch today. Had one serving Mexican meat/ bean mixture we used for burritos….and one serving mashed potatoes. Made a Mexican Shepherd’s pie and topped with a little cheese, guacamole, and salsa. Delish and should keep me going through my tough house this afternoon.

Hi, BB. Glad you have some fun TV to help you through the January blahs.

Can’t believe your father in law said that to you, KZ. Oh my!

Hi everyone – I love a rainy day, especially one that finds me at home. Although it’s pretty cold, the sun is out today after a rainy day yesterday. There was even a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, followed by a double rainbow! I’m not an umbrella person; I’ve got a big raincoat with a big hood that serves its purpose. It even has a removable lining so it is functional year-round. It is black, however, and like you ECB, I didn’t really want black – wanted something a little fun but not over the top. However, functionality won over and its paid for itself many times over as I’ve had it for many years.
I wonder if ‘special days’ was conjured up as a reminder that just about anything can be special in its own way. Whatever the reason, it’s usually fun!
Haven’t read the article you posted yet, MS, but I will venture to say the squirrels are indeed fat(ter than usual) this year. They did their usual foraging in the fall, so their nests are full, but they are also able to find what wasn’t stored and they can dig up what they buried. Plus in my yard they get cat food if I don’t take it in fast enough! They are funny critters; I never tire of watching them. Thanks for posting that map, MS – I like it!
Wow, RIP Major Tom. I found out in a weird way this morning. Read a post on the ‘Complicated Cats’ site that my sleepy mind was interpreting to be the demise of the cat in the photo. After reading a few comments, and waking up, I went to Yahoo News to confirm it. So sad. It was his birthday on Friday too (same as hubby’s dad, and Elvis!) – the radio station we listen to played his tunes all day. Did anyone know he had cancer? I think the death of all great rockers will come as a major hit in general. It almost seems that the ones who didn’t die tragically and young should live forever. Anyway, WFUV/Fordham University is playing lots of Bowie tunes today. How does one pick a favorite song of his? So many good ones. He and Bing Crosby as well as he and Freddy Mercury are surely rocking it out in the Great Concert Hall in the Sky. What a voice. Very sad and tragic about the passing of Natalie Cole too. I didn’t know much of her music, but her re-creation of “Unforgettable” with her dad is a beautiful piece.
AV, how exciting to be meeting fiancé’s parents this weekend! I hope things go well and you have a great time.
KJ, your b-day is indeed a short time away, those 9-10 months will certainly sneak up quickly! One of my Uncle Jack’s sayings is ‘everyone I know is having a birthday this year!’
Always enjoy you telling us about the farm show, BB. The bunny hop contest sounds insanely cute! And I knew you would mention the tractor square dance!
Well PG, what did you think of the weekend’s football games? I’m glad to see Green Bay advance. The Seattle/Minnesota game was good, with quite the surprise ending with that missed field goal. Our local newspaper had a nice spread on the back page of Tom Coughlin thanking Giants fans as he moves on…to the Eagles perhaps? Say it aint so!
Your creative lunch sounds good, ECB. I’ve got some leftover taco makings and thinking about how to repurpose and have for dinner. Purrhaps a version of your idea!

I love your lunch, ECB. I’m have Broccoli Au Gratin Rice-a-Roni. JJ-the games were interesting with so many twists. I’ve been reading how Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown faked their injuries. Apparently, we Steelers fans are out to get Vontaze Burfict. To say I’m furious is an understatement. The Bengals fans were throwing trash and cheering when Ben was taken off the field. These actions show that the Bengals are still poor sports. Not quite off my soapbox but onward.

In a small way I feel sorry for the Vikings kicker. Too often winning or losing the game rests on the shoulders of the kicker but everyone has to play their part. The Packers managed pull it off. Houston ended with a goose egg. That sucks and it wasn’t even a good game.

Tom Coughlin is a class act despite all the Controversy surrounding him. I’ve heard he’s interviewing for the Philly head coach position.

I’m off to exercise. Has it been warm enough to walk, JJ?

I hadn’t heard of the ‘faked’ injuries. Trash talk, no doubt. Sports fans in general should be ashamed for the behavior of the fans at that game. Fans at Giants Stadium took flack a few years back for throwing snowballs in frustration. I’m not exactly off my soapbox either. I feel bad for any kicker who does not kick the winning field goal. Things are very polar for this position, often they either save their team and win the game, or suffer a terrible loss because they missed. In this case, the Vikings had opportunities to score TD’s, so that says that their loss had more to do with their lack of offensive performance than the kicker missing one play.
It’s cold and very windy today, not conducive for walking. I have been out lately, but not the 5 mile trek that I was doing. On tolerable days, I’ve been doing 2-3 miles, but windy days are deal breakers. I’m ‘de-Christmas-ing’ the house today, so hopefully the many trips up and down the stairs will do me good. Have the stereo on downstairs, where the Bowie tunes are really bringing back memories, but upstairs I must admit the TV is on. I’m a sucker for ‘Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home’. It’s the one with the whales.

A shocking start to the day, with the news of Bowie’s death – I’m still having trouble believing that.

But a much nicer surprise when I went out to give the cafe crowd their second meal of the day. It’s been so wet here, or else frozen up, that I haven’t been able to give them much for a couple of days. But today as I opened the door I could see one orange tabby on the step (the one who will often sit on the kitchen windowsill, just in case I forget!) and as I stepped outside I could see the black one with white legs beside him. That’s the one who made his first contact with me just a few days ago.

As I pulled the door up behind me I noticed the older, bigger black one not far away – and as I started putting food down for them, teeny black one appeared too! So I had four furriends together as I did the dishing up.

Older black one didn’t stay long – she doesn’t always, just eats quickly and then goes off somewhere else, although she did have a quick cuddle before she left. Teeny black one is still too small to eat huge amounts, so she had her share and then went to sit beside the wheelie bins and watch the boys. But ginger tabby and black-with-white-legs stayed a fair bit longer – and b-w-w-l became very playful and affectionate, rubbing up against me with a lot of purrs, and rolling over on his back so that I could admire his tummy! (And give it a bit of attention too, of course.)

I must have stayed out there with them for about half an hour I think, and it was lovely to see them all being more accepting of each other – as well as the food, naturally.

These four are the most regular visitors, ginger tabby being first in the queue most days. There are several others who come now and again, but it’s quite unusual to have so many all at the same time. Definitely worth getting a bit cold for!

    😀

P.S. I do try not to put the food into a puddle, honest . . .

Brr – still cold around here, think it’s still only +8 outdoors.
Sigh, hope outdoor kits survive next few days – may creep into the 20’s by Thursday.
I haven’t seen Otto around/maybe different schedule/hopeful he has at least a part time forever home…
Did notice few other kits/still skittish waiting for me yesterday evening. I’ve been putting out extra kibble & water – most of nomz
    are gone.
OK, time to get back to part 2’s fun…later.

I am beyond honoured to have a neologism created just for moi! So I am considered to be a Pagoombrophobic! Will have to put some time into learning how to pronounce it propurrly.
Consultation with KM tells me that some recent updates re emoticons have sadly left my poor obsolete browser out in the cold. Words will have to suffice!
Speaking of cold, it’s unbelievably frigid here, but sunny. And srsly windy. My newish navy down parka with the faux fur hood has proven its mettle as I was actually too warm walking speedily in it – surprising for me. Knit headband, layers, hight boots, thermal gloves, shades and not too bad, although I am glad to be back in the warm. Steaming hot latte time!
