    Drum roll please…………………………………………………

Dewey – The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter

Choosing this book for the first read only seemed like the right thing to do!

I had another book I was going to choose but had an overwhelming response for Dewey. What better way to honor Dewey and his life by selecting his story for the “The Daily Kitten Book Club”.

Here is a link for anyone who is not familiar with the book.

I hope everyone enjoys this book and with all of us being cat lovers I think it will be hard not to.

Our discussion for Dewey will start on April 1st. We will also start our new read for the month. I have had four books submitted for our list and will post in a little while. Please if anyone else would like to add a book title to the list email me (roomboxatyahoo.com) and I will add it. I will save my other choice for later in case we have an open month and need a book.

Well, if I’m guessing right…we better grab a box of tissues and a warm blanket as we settle in our comfy chair and start our jouney with Dewey!

    Happy reading everyone!!!!!

    Thank you ILCM.

Are you planning on posting the rest of the list? It is much cheaper for those buying books to buy several and save on shipping.

I bought it this morning (in hopes)!! Yea!!!! great choice!!! I’m going to start it today…… my problem is, I’ll be finished way before 4/1, so I’ll probably read it 2 or 3 times….. (blushes…. I have a tendenancy to forget things)…..

I think I’m going to keep a journal as I read, with thoughts and comments, so I can organize them and be ready for our discussion on April 1 (which, BTW, is a Wednesday )……. (we’ll just ignore that it’s a fool’s day) LOL

I picked the book up this morning, too, AV just in hopes it would be picked. Also I knew it was one I’d like to read. I like your journal idea, too I might just do that. 🙂

I will post the other titles in a little while. I am at the store working so in between customers I am trying to get the list ready!!

I hope everyone is pleased with the selection and for those of you who have read Dewey I apologize. I was afraid that some had read it because it had been suggested on some of the threads. Bare with us! I think our next read will be one that has not been read by many. I checked at the local library…they didn’t have it! Thank heavens for online shopping!

I think the journal idea is great or use post it notes (as a reminder) to mark in the book parts that you would like to dicuss. I hope we can keep this fun and interesting so that we all can enjoy some part of the club. Whether it be reading the book, discussing it or just reading the thread of our discussion!

I know this is the first thing I have done in a long time that I feel really good about! I am so glad that everyone is excited about this!!! I know I am!!!

Don’t stress yourself ILMC. We have the first book to start with and that is a great starting point. It may be that no matter which book is selected someone will have read it. I guess that goes with the territory.

There will always be some that have read the book, but I’ll bet that they will be happy to revisit it!

We had to laugh at a member of my book group here. When we read The Da Vinci Code, it was suggested that we all make notes because there was so much in the story to remember. This one member came with one entire yellow legal pad covered in tiny writing, front and back of each page! She could have published her own book!!!

No need to apologize it is a great book to start with. I just think of it as a head start–which for me is good because the end of the year is really busy!

That’s funny!!! WWM…that would be me. I mentioned I had bought the book and never read it…that was one reason. I kept doing research on everything I would read in it!!!!

Oh yeah, forgot to ask, how do the discussions of books work?

    #386820

I think the person who chose the book leads the discussion. That might be as little as just throwing out a single question and seeing where the conversation goes from there.

Some books already have discussion guides with ideas of things to discuss in a book club setting. We might want to check on that.

Molly it is all new to us here so it is going to be a little trial and error but ILMC has figured out a frame for it. Read the post TDK Book Club in the General section and you will see how she came up with this.

Hooray! Just finished it. You will love it. It is a close second to The cat that went to Paris and The cat Abroad. Enjoy!
