We were on the last leg of our journey from Lubbock to Jacksonville, Fl when we had a car accident. Lucy’s crate popped open and she jumped out the shattered back window and ran right in front of my car (i was following my husband)into the woods. The first thing I saw was that my son was okay (thank God…impact was closest to him and Lucy) then I saw Lucy flee the scene. i felt so helpless and knew that could be the last time I saw my sweet girl. We are beside ourselves.

Amazingly, there were dedicated animal rescue people who live locally at the scene of the accident. They are working to find her…flyers, a trap, etc… We looked for a long time, and my husband is just leaving the area today (24 hours after the accident.) Hubby leaving the area (which is 4 1/2 hours away) makes it so real that we are leaving part of our family behind.

I just can’t take it…after all we have been through with Lucy. I’m so sad and worried. Our family will never be the same if we don’t get her back.

I’d appreciate your prayers and white light so much….and appreciate the listening ear. Other than my immediate family, you are the only folks who I think can truly understand the horror of watching my sweet indoor only cat run terrified into the woods.

We’re you able to leave clothing or stuff with a scent she recognizes?

My husband left some of his dirty socks in the trap and her crate. The rescue lady suggested our dirty laundry then I drove off to Jacksonville with all our dirty laundry. (Was kicking myself later.) It was so hard to leave but the other cats and my kids really needed the long journey to be over.

EC I’m devastated for you, your family and Lucy. I can’t imagine the horror of seeing that before my eyes. Surrounding you and Lucy with love and light. Please let us know how things are going.

Sounds really weird but even if you somehow sent some used cat litter that would really carry a fimiliar smell.. It’s how I got Nitini back after she got out .. It took a few days but she came to the smell of buttons used litter..

Joan and buttons, both good ideas, about sending laundry and litter. I might contact the rescuer (who, in a crazy twist of fate, realized she and my husband had met before…she and her husband are good folks) and ask if she thinks that would help.

Thanks so much for all your comforting words and prayers and white light. I knew you guys would understand.

Lucy had the best vet check up she had ever had right before we left Lubbock. Her mouth looked perfect for the first time. It was a triumphant feeling…like we had finally arrived. But she requires daily meds to keep it that way.

I need to play with the other cats tonight…to help them settle in. But Lucy is the cat I can always count on to come play if nobody else will get interested. I can just picture her little tiny orange fearsome face attacking her favorite streamer toy. I don’t think I’ll use that toy tonight.

    ETA…Yes, she is microchipped, Buttons.

Sending Positive Vibes for Lucy to smell hubby’s socks and enter the trap. My heart is heavy for what has happened but what a blessing that there were kind animal caring people nearby who will keep up the search for Lucy.

Yes, MS, an amazing blessing that those folks were there. And another gentleman who has nine cats and was talking about using infrared technology to find Lucy. And the convenience store owner feeds cats and is looking out for her. Such a blessing. Would have been so hard for us to coordinate long distance.

Oh, no!!!! How horrifying and awful! I cannot even imagine! 🙁 🙁 SO sad about your accident, but glad you are all ok. Bless those helping find Lucy for you! Poor sweet baby must be scared to death! Lots of hugs to all of you and many prayers for Lucy and that she’ll be found quickly! Thinking of you…..

since she’s microchipped thats great. that should help improve the chances if anyone sees her and finds her unless they take her in themself!

I will go to bed thinking of your Lucy and visualizing her on her way home to you. I’ll wake up with the same thought. I hope it turns out right for all of you.

Well ECB if you had to loose a cat this is strangely the best circumstances to loose her in.. She’s in full health and has so any experienced people already looking for her.. I bet she’s out there now hunting crickets and not even realising she is worring so many people.. You wait you’ll get her home and she’ll be like ” that’s was some adventure .. Why does everyone look so relieved ? Did I miss something?”

I just know she’ll get home she has too many good people watching out for her now … And it’s great she’s chipped!

I forgot to ask if you were all okay after the accident. It must have been more than minor if the window was broken.
I agree with what Buttons has said about Lucy being in great health and there are some wonderful cat people looking for her.

It was a pretty big smash, MS. But the brake light area of the driver’s side took most of the impact. It was pretty horrible to witness. My husband just turned right in front of a truck. (Has since heard from the convenience store owner and others in town that there are lots of wrecks there). Hubby, my 8 yr old, Lucy and Eko were in that car. No injuries, just very minor head bumps for the humans. My ten yr old, Emily, Leo and I were following my husband. Everyone is fine physically….the whole family is just worried about Lucy. It is sweet how much the boys love her,

Thanks for all the positive thoughts. I like the image of her hunting crickets Buttons. Sounds like something she’d do.

ETA…the driver of the truck was also unharmed….thank goodness. He said his wife is a veterinarian and they also want to help find Lucy.
