    Hello everyone!
So both of my cats, Michi (female) and Remus (male), have just gotten their yearly vaccinations yesterday which includes 3in1 and purevax rabies. Both of them have just turn a year 4-5 months ago. After the shots, they seemed fine, a bit groggy, but nonetheless active and normal. This morning, I gave them wet food for being so good yesterday and both of them never turn down wet food. We usually get blue buffalo or wellness but I wanted to give them something different so we purchased one can of “b.f.f” tuna and pumpkin and the brand “lotus” pork flavor. Usually if there’s any left over dry food in their bowls, I would mix it with the wet food, which I did this morning with the tuna and pumpkin.
As I was opening and mixing, Remus could clearly smell the food and was purring very loudly and for once, Michi didn’t seem excited so I assumed she was still full since there was a bit of dry food left. Remus finished his share of food in less than five minutes, but I noticed Michi was just licking her food rather slow than usual (she’s such a lady lol) and after a few more licks she walked off, which I thought was rather odd because her bowl was still full. I assumed either she was stuffed or really didn’t like the food (I have given them tuna before but not tuna and pumpkin).
A few hours later, I came home and decided to give Michi the regular dry food I give them since I’m pretty sure Remus ate all her share of wet food (tsktsk) and I didn’t wash the bowl to see if she would still eat it with the scent of the wet food and she tried to eat but it looked like she was struggling(??) and shaking her head, so I thought she really hated it so I took out all the food, and scrubbed the bowl clean and put more dry food in it. Unfortunately, she had the same reaction, she would attempt to eat but would shake her head (and sneeze i think..) and alternate between the two bowls.. So that was something that I’m pretty worried about since she absolutely loves food. Is it the effects of her vaccinations? or is something wrong with her mouth/teeth?? She was fine before her shots..

She’s also walking fine with no hint of wobbliness.

    Hi Divine,

I’m sorry Miss Michi isn’t 100% but Mr. Remus is charging onward.

Here’s a list of symptoms. Please understand these symptoms could be a result of any of the vaccines or all.

    Common symptoms:
    Mild Fever
    Decrease in social behavior
    Diminished appetite or activity
Sneezing or other respiratory signs with intranasal vaccines
Discomfort or mild swelling at the injection sit
Rare side effects, such as an allergic reaction, may occur. Your pet may experience symptoms of a more serious reaction to the vaccine within minutes or hours of the vaccination

    Rare symptoms could include:
    Swelling to face and legs
    Repeated vomiting or diarrhea
    Whole body itching
    Difficulty breathing
    Collapse

If your pet experiences any of these rare symptoms, you should contact your veterinarian immediately, as your pet may require additional medical treatment.

In my experience, when a cat shakes their head like that it means they have ear mites or any thing affecting the ears.

FYI-My vet refuses to administers the 3 yr. rabies vaccination. He said their have been too many problems, like site sarcomas from chronic inflammation.

All I’ve read about the new PureVac 3 in 1 is many veterinarians are excited about it’s use. “We feel the PureVax Rabies Vaccine is a safer alternative for our feline patients, and we are proud to begin using it on our feline patients.”

Here’s a bunch of information but you have to decide if her behavior is enough of a concern to take her back to or call the vet. As the saying goes “err on the side of caution.”

    I hope it helps.
