This is an open question for anyone with knowledge. Yuri needs l lysine but it’s impossible to get. PetSmart has something but it’s got rice and vitamin A which he can’t have. Now that we make two trips outside a day and he’s eating the apt grass that gives him more than he had but? Given the fact that I can’t get l lysine and the human form has silica? What are my options? He really needs it and we couldn’t go to the park sundae because there was no cart. Any advice?

I buy the human grade l-lysine in the over the counter pharmacy at Walmart. I grind up the pills (they may contain silica I haven’t looked actually) and sprinkle it on their wet food daily. I have had no problems from the moment I introduced it to them. They don’t seem to think it has a smell or taste and eat their food with no problem. It has cut down on sneezing, runny eyes and noses as all my cats have the feline herpes virus.

Try amazon.com I just searched on it there and it’s exactly what my vet gave me. $20 or so for the gel. 😆

What type of cats Kitties? Yuri is Siamese ragdoll and black (unspecified) he’s allergic to more than One was. They say silica’s in kitty litter but he doesn’t eat that. I don’t know.

human grade is just fine I always get the “free-form” capsules that way you can just pull them open and sprinkle onto the food and mix in.. it doesn’t matter what Breed of cat L-lysine is great for any breed and I’ve used with with kittens as young as 3-4 weeks old . it’s amazing for coat quality and great for weight gain also. I currently have my Cerebellar hypoplasia 17 week old kitten on 1000mg daily because he has a particularly nasty case of feline herpes.. alternatively if you want to go even more natural next to potatoes 🙂 Goats milk and goats milk yogurt have the highest levels of L-lysine naturally.. I also give Mr Ólta Minnesota goats milk yougurt daily or sheep milk yogurt.. I find it’s easier to add the L-lysine to the yogurt because you know they eat every last drop of it ..

Our vet gave us powdered l lysine but I’ve seen it on amazon as well. Out kitten stormy is 10 weeks now and has feline herpes and we mix a half a scoop in her wet food twice daily and it works wonders. For our older cats I give them goats milk as a precaution to boost their immune systems more natural. Both forms work for our cats. Hopefully everything works out for your kit

I use viralsys powder, and I get it from PetCareRx. not cheap but it goes a long way. I used to grind up lysine tabs, but this stuff dissolves into their food faster and my cats notice it less. In any case, Lysine is a wonderful thing, I have a cat prone to respiratory probs, and this helps him a lot. As for my fosters, Lysine has helped me keep the spread of URI under control and they recover way faster.

Welcome Laurel and thank you for the advice except that? He may not need. It did nothing for him as human form and had titanium dioxide which is dangerous. As I found out. Shockingly? Hills Science diet has it in it. I would never feed Yuri that. He has congestion from the fact that I had to wash him over and over because as a newborn he was kept outside. The entire litter was. ?? It was March and apparently around here March is as bad as July as far as vermin go. There are still some stray on him but this is the second application of one spot and I take him out—barring rain, every day. Twice. We tried this time but upstairs doesn’t beat downstairs. There’s no grass upstairs, obviously. I don’t think; as I said, that he needs it. Desperate to get penicillin but the chances of alone are slim. They’re just not American here. In the rest of the country you can get it for pets. Not here. So I’m giving him OJ once every two days, fish oil, which he needs regardless, and yogurt. Plain and tepid to warm. No chance with a vet either.g
Grease their palms immediately or the don’t wanna know from you.

I have used the Viralsys powder too, it’s quite expensive. I just buy the human grade tablet in the OTC pharmacy and put them in the blender. (I wait and take the top of the blender off outside as that powder is so fine, it wafts through the air like a cloud!) Once they are ground up, I pour the powder back into the bottle, then sprinkle it on their wet food everyday. (I also pour back into the bottle outside 😛 ) I helps keep my cats’ herpes under control and they don’t have runny eyes or snotty noses anymore.
