My kitten Khaleesi (who was born in a litter of a feral cat) hasn’t been able to poop at all and when she tries she just strains and strains until she just gives up. I noticed that her rectum has 2 whites dots and also when she tries to poop all I can see is red or pink flesh where her poop should be coming out of. Her rectum is also slightly poking out in an irregular manner. If anyone could tell me what they believe it could be and/or could tell me how I could help my kitten it would be of great help. It’s incredibly sad to see her in pain 🙁 (awaiting vets appointment)

Hi Iveth, the vet is where I would start. That being said, while you are waiting you could add a little olive oil to her food. I don’t know how old your kitten is, so it’s hard to help you. Wet food would be beneficial to her, it contains much more liquid and you could add a little oil to it. If she is still on a bottle, you could add some oil to that. Goat’s milk would be the best thing (found in the baking aisle in grocery stores in cans or the fresh milk cooler) is best. It contains good flora for their gut and helps keep things moving along. It is lactose free and helps to settle their tummies. You can bottle feed it to her if she is still a small kitten or put it in a bowl for her to lap up. Let us know how she is doing!

Great advice KZ.. Goats milk has always been a good send for my kittens when dealing with sever constipation also adding a few drops or a teaspoon of veg oil to her food will help things move along and KZ is correct wet food is best in these situations and plenty of hydration

Thank you so much for the advice! 🙂 She’s 2 weeks old. Very anxious to know what the vet has to say Saturday.

Kitten under 5 weeks normally only have one or two bowl movements every 4-5 days .. So it’s not abnormal for young kittens to be constipated for days at a time but adding the veg oil or even dilute the formula a little that will help too.. And goats milk is perfectly safe for a 2 week old

Thanks Buttons! Constipation in young bottle fed kittens is not uncommon. I have found in rearing mine, that I would rather prevent it than treat it! I reared my last kitten on goat’s milk entirely and he did not have constipation problems like when I used KMR (kitten milk replacer). If you can get her on goat’s milk now, you may not have a problem by Saturday…Keep us posted!

UPDATE: Went to the vet earlier than expected. Vet said that the kitten was fine when it came to the constipation, that all I had to do was switch her to wet food since he said the kitten was actually 4 weeks old and that was the reason she wasn’t pooping. (She did however have a mild upper respiratory infection that is getting treated)
