I need the 411 on kitty poop. Last Wednesday me and my family heard 1 week old kittens crying for hours none stop. After around 6-8 hours of none stop crying we decided to get KMR and feed them. The poor babies were were so hungry. Also we have noo idea where the mom is or went.

On Saturday night one of the male kittens poop was grey and had a bit of diarrhea as well. On Sunday morning I called a 24 hour vet in my area that told me that it might just be his stomach getting used to the KMR or an upset stomach from drinking some of his brothers pee (He has a bad tendency of doing this). The vet explained to keep an eye on him and it it happens again to bring him in.

Since saturday he hasn’t pooped this way again (YAY) but I did notice that all 3 of the kittens poop has been coming out firm but in an odd dark green-ish color. They where first on PetLac wish is Petags cheaper KMR formula and on Saturday I switched them to Petags more expensive KMR. They all eat very well and don’t seem lethargic, instead they whine about who gets to drink milk next.

So after all that my question is, is it normal for kittens poop to change color a lot and more after switching the formula?
I can take them to the vet but they are so tiny (almost 2 weeks, I think) that they can’t get a proper stool sample unless if the kitty poops 4 hours before the vet appointment…. which is near impossible because they all poop late at night when the vet is closed…..

    Hope this post isn’t tl;dr.

We recommend goat’s milk here at TDK because those of us who have hand reared kittens, tend to prefer it over KMR. It’s non constipating and has probiotics in it for their digestive systems. You can get it in the refrigerated milk section of the grocery, or in the baking aisle in cans. The canned is condensed, so add water 1 to 1. There is also the powdered kind. I’m going to post some links for you on hand reared kittens. Just remember whenever you make a change in a kittens’ diet (or any animal for that matter) it shows up in their poop.

Thanks KittyZee! I took the kittens this morning to the vet and the vet said that they look grate and healthy! They also did a Stool Analysis and found nothing!

He said that the kitties look very healthy.

Btw what about mixing Goat Milk and KMR?

Yes, it’s a great way to get rid of the expensive KMR, and a great way to transition them over to the cheaper goat’s milk. Whatever you prefer as both of them are nutritionally complete on their own. 🙂
