I have three orphaned kittens I think around three weeks old. Their eyes are open and ears are up. They don’t play and interact with each other yet. They are eating great and maybe too much? They constantly act hungry but they are eating. Their bellies look bloated. They sleep eat and cry and I can’t cuddle or console them. I am feeding them kitten formula with a bottle and they are eliminating with stimulation. I feed them and they cry and cry and I’m not sure what to do? Maybe try different formula maybe I’m feeding too much? Do kittens normally constantly act hungry?
Thanks so much for any advice

Could they be cold? If their little bellies are bloated maybe some goat milk will help them.

I have a hot water bottle under the blanket and i have them in a plastic storage tub and have been putting a towel over the tub. I went to the store and got powdered goats milk and some different formula. i am hoping that will help.

I also read some where that maybe some infant gas relief drops would help?

Hi Kristin, the goat’s milk was great advice and will help your kittens immune systems too. It could be that they have worms, sometimes kittens tummies are bloated and they act hungry all the time because of worms. You will have to get them to a vet eventually anyway and they can prescribe a worm med to the kittens to kill the worms. If they have a large worm burden, they will do the meds a little at a time as killing them all at once could cause an intestinal blockage. I’ve never known a kitten that didn’t have worms! I don’t know about trying infant gas relief drops in kittens, as sometimes human medicine can cause adverse reactions in cats/kittens that can be fatal.

yes, i got the powdered goats milk and they seem to be doing a little better. they still seem hungry still after feeding but they aren’t crying as much. They still don’t like to cuddle, if i am any where near them they start rooting. They will start purring after eating and pawing my hands. I definitely think switching the milk helped and hopefully continues to get better. I called my vet and they want to charge $100 for a litter visit. I dont think I will be doing that unfortunately. Is there something i can buy to get rid of the worms at a pet store or feed store.

I did some research and here’s what I found:

I would not buy over the counter medications. There are generally less controls on them than the ones available from your vet. Also, the over the counter products do not cater for all worms out there and there are different treatments for different worms. Ask if the vet or vet assistant (providing the weight of all kittens involved) will let purchase the tablets without the need for a consultation fee. Or you can ask if your vet will give you a prescription to fill at Petsmart.

Here’s a link of all available low cost vet care by state:

Call which ever is in your states for assistance.
