My almost 4-week old kitten refuses to go to the bathroom on her own when her sibling (Milky) does. They both eat solid kitten chow with KMR and seem to enjoy it. Tigger eats a tiny bit, drinks some water and then her mother comes over and stimulates her to go to the bathroom. But she only pees. She’s only pooped once and that was 3 days ago. I’m very worried and don’t want to take her in unless I absolutely have to. She plays and sleeps normally and she doesn’t cry or show signs of discomfort. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Try adding a little olive oil to her food, as it sounds like she could be constipated and having a hard time getting it started. Sometimes you can use a little vaseline on the end of a thermometer and insert it just a LITTLE WAY into the rectum. All it does is stimulate the rectum into the ‘feeling’ of pressure there or pooping. Sometimes that’s all you need to get it started. After she eats, you can stimulate her and put her into a litterbox with plain, clay unscented litter and see if she will use it. Take her paw and scratch at the litter and see if it helps. I am going to post a link on the ‘triangle method’ too, lots of people have had luck with this. If you cannot get her to go, then maybe the vet can give her an enema. Keep us posted!

She refuses to eat any of the food mixed with olive oil and I attempted the triangle method. She seemed like she was trying to get it out, but then she’d stop and suck it back in, for lack of a better phrase. I gave up after 20 minutes. I’m going to buy a thermometer and vaseline tomorrow as all of the shops here are closed this late at night. Maybe I’ll have better luck tomorrow. If nothing still I’m taking her in to the vet. 🙂

Attempting enema tomorrow morning. If nothing, vet time.
