Yuki has had a behavior i found out is called “wool sucking” from the first day we had him. He doesnt chew bits off, he doesnt seem to use it as anything more than snuggle time, and he is still eating, drinking, and using the litterbox appropriately. Beyond that, is there any reason i might be missing about letting him suck? He has a specific tshirt i gave him, i wash it about once a week, and make certain he hasnt eaten any. Throw your thoughts on this at me!!!

    Thanks

Some cats love to do this, and it seems to be harmless. Just make sure the cat isn’t ingesting any kind of fabric. They do this behavior when they are young kittens, they ‘knead’ their mothers tummy stimulating the milk to drop down. It’s also a comforting behavior they do at nap time or at night at bedtime. I don’t see anything wrong with it, but some people find it annoying. I have given my cats nubby fleece blankets just for that purpose.

Yeah, i know for certain he is only sucking because he usually does it while I hold him and the shirt is one i dont wear anymore- just plain thin cotton. I get the impression he was weaned too early, mainly because he was already eating kibble right when we found him but it was just over a month before he started showing any signs of sexual maturity towards our other cat who is a spayed female. I just was thinking about what other folks think because ive never has a cat with this behavior. Google isnt a ton of help either…100 million ideas and very little agreement if it is good or bad.

So, i check the shirt over when i wash it every 4-5 days and enjoy the snuggles and the kneading. He seems to enjoy the time as well and he shows no signs of stress ever and certainly not cuddling in bed. So it smells like kitten spit and he has a baby behavior tendancy…i think we can live with it!

Anyone else? Always willing to hear from anyone’s POV.

    Thanks

    Hi Jackie,

Miss Moppet loves to suck on the soft blankets when she’s in my lap. She’s always done that even though she was with her mom until she was 9 weeks old. It’s her way of being comforted and it’s no big deal.

Thanks PG, i am ok with it pretty much unless he starts EATING the tshirt. Its really quite sweet because its the only time he purrs. So i know he wants his “binket” when he comes to me rumbling like an oncoming thunderstorm! His binket (the tshirt) is so named because i texted my husband about it once when we first got him and accidentally spelled blanket “bInket” and it just stuck! lol. Being a huge “cheezburger” fan, stuff like that just works.

When he starts to eat his blnket (love it) gently tug that spot away and let him suck on another spot. Is your wee boy also your avatar?

Yes, thats him. He was the Caturday Star Kit a couple weeks ago when we joined. As for the binket, its not likely to develop holes anytime soon. Its a good quality cotton tshirt of mine that i no longer wear. I do check it when i wash it tho…our family knows EXACTLY what happens when pets swallow fabric. In one end and out the other! Ive never seen a dog so confused!

So, just to leave an update, Yuki still comes to me sometimes purring like an antique telephone and dragging his binket and others just purring. He is firmly entrenched with this and we continue to treat it the same as affection from our other cat Duchess.

    Thanks for the update.

I’m glad life is going well. Miss Duchess has a new baby bro and I hope they get to be BFF. I’d like to see Yuki’s sister. Can we see Miss Duchess as TDK? BTW, TDK doesn’t have to be a kitten.

    PG
