Hi all, I seriously need some advice here! Myself and partner Daniel are new to the cat world and after my brother’s cat had a litter we fell in love and got our choice of the litter. Anyways, he’s 9 weeks now and we brought him home last Wednesday. He’s playful and affectionate and extremely hyperactive. He loves cuddling up to us both on the evenings and plays with us both equal amounts. However, yesterday something seemed to have changed. I was at work during the day and my boyfriend was watching him, he had our kitty cat Shadow perched on his lap whilst he was playing PlayStation when he could since the kitten staring up at him. He looked down and he went for his face. This then happened twice again later that evening; I and Daniel were both sitting on the couch with our Shadow chilling on his lap when out of nowhere his eyes darkened and widened, he crouched down and just jumped for his face. I know it sounds silly but it actually quite frightened me seeing him like that (his eyes are pretty damn scary!) and my first thought was ‘is he turning vicious?’ Daniel hasn’t done anything to instigate this and has taken it to heart a bit that our kitten has started attacking him and not me. We love the bones off him and will persevere and try our best to knock this bad habit I’m just worried in case we can’t shift it? We’ve read a lot of tips online and every time he does it we’ve agreed that we’ll hiss at him and remove him from the room without speaking to him for 10-15 minutes. Are we doing right? We’ve tried saying “no” in an assertive tone but he’s really not fazed by it. Can anyone give me some advice? We’ve both agreed that a vicious cat is simply off the cards for us as we have small children on both sides of the family who sleep at our home regularly. Last thing either of us want to do is have to give our beautiful baby up but unless we find an end to it it’ll be our only option :’(
