Hello everyone, this is my first post!
A little background: I got two domestic shorthair kittens toward the end of April. They both came from the same litter and were born on March 17th of this year. The pervious owner told us they she had been weaning them from their mother and it seemed to be working fine; they were drinking water from their own bowls and eating solid foods. So, April 25th came and I went to get the kittens. About two weeks after getting them, one of them (Baines) started nursing my eyelid. Yes, the eyelid. I was just minding my own business doing work and out of the blue comes a kitten sucking my eye. I would remove him and place him on the floor or somewhere else on the bed and about an hour later he’d come back for more. Sometimes he was relentless–he would wine and meow until you let him continue. It’s been a month and there is still a nursing problem. The vet said it’s because he was weaned incorrectly and he will grow out of it. The problem is that the nursing has grown, and Baines will nurse any part of your body he has access to, with his favorite being the earlobe. He also really likes the knuckles and finger tips (which make sense, they are sort of nipple like) but that doesn’t explain the previous eyelid obsession or the fact that he will try to nurse anywhere. The neck, elbow, forearm, ribs, nose, cheek, chin–any skin contact. In his sleep the other night, he nursed his bother’s ear. And the other thing, Baines has always nursed. His brother, Delano, only recently started nursing after seeing his brother obsessed with it. Thankfully Delano will only try and go for the earlobe.
I’ve tried everything to get them to stop but they won’t. I’ve put them in the floor, I’ve carried them over to the food dishes when they try, I’ve said no (like that would actually help-it’s cats we’re talking about); it all seems useless.
So what I’m here for, has anyone encountered this problem? Does it stop? And remedies? I apologize for this really long post, but I need some help!
