    Hi Everybody!

I’m so thankful I found this extremely useful site!

So here I go: I’ve been looking after two abondened kittens [4 weeks old when I found them] since July 19th that I found screaming in someones [abandoned] garden.

They are currently approximately 5-6 weeks of age according to the vet but as they were feral they could be on the small side due to their mother most likely not eating everyday. [They still have their blue eyes and incissor teeth have come through].

One of them has had problems the entire time and I’ve become quite stressed in trying to nurse her back to good health. I took them three times to the vet but I found they were unhelpful and just filled my head with unpleasant thoughts.

Anyway, the little one had an eye infection which I treated with drops and it cleared up but later contracted what the vet thinks is ringworm. She has a bald patch the size of a thumb nail on her head so with the vets instructions I am treating it with Lamisil cream [I think it’s too strong].

This morning I woke up to find 3 new fungus on her body with one of the new fungus all red and very sore looking. Could this be an allergic reaction? Could it be her body trying to rid itself of the disease?

I called the vet but no answer. I’m getting irritated with the vet tbh……they haven’t been helpful in my opinion.

She also lost her appetite three days ago and will eat little to not much at all [feeding the KMR and Hills AD kitten food]. Though she defecates every day.

Her sister eats and eats and is growing playing bouncing around but the little one struggles to keep up with the games but holds her own. She is active but also very lethargic.

Today she vomited twice and so I gave her water to replenish herself and it seemed to work. She didn’t look so dehydrated thank goodness and a little more energetic.

Can anyone please tell me a natural way to treat ringworm in a 5 week old kitten? Or some immune system boosting food?

She has energy bursts but will then curl up by my feet to sleep but by looking at her she looks ok but not as healthy as her sister.

I can’t bare the thought of things getting worse so any useful tips would be very appreciated!!

    Thank You very much!!! 🙂

Hi Oscar, welcome to TDK! Go to the grocery and get some goat’s milk (cold milk section for fresh, or the baking aisle in cans) and if you get the cans, it’s condensed so add water 1 to 1. It has great probiotics for their tummies and no lactose to cause diarrhea. Also, get some L-lysine (human grade) can be found in the over the counter supplements in the store or Walmart. Crush the pills up and sprinkle some on their wet food. It’s great for the immune system, and especially good for kittens with URI’s and runny eyes and sneezing. I think you will notice the goat’s milk will work wonders for your kittens. If they don’t act interested in it, then mix it with their wet food. Hope this helps!

    Hi Kittyzee 😀

    Thank You for the reply!

I’ve been feeding them goats milk mixed with their formula since day one and yes I have to say I think it’s wonderful!
It definitely makes a difference and the AD Hills is a supplement I give twice daily.

I decided to stop the Lamisil cream and use organic coconut oil to treat her ringworm as I hear it’s less harsh and does work plus I fed her some coconut oil last night and I think it revived her.

She’s still thin compared to her sister but what worries me is that this is a recent thing. She was eating and drinking well and had the kitten belly up until the vet gave her Banminth to treat internal worms parasites [he should have told me side affects!!!!!]

She’s not gaining weight like she was and her stomach towards her legs has thinned. 🙁 It’s quite worrying and I get sensitive as I just would like her to recover.

She does have outbursts of energy and plays well with her sister but then becomes very lethargic.

I don’t think the ringworm is solely responsible for her demise but perhaps an internal illness that her immune system is fighting.

I have a holistic lady coming over tomorrow to advise me and in the mean time I’ve given her a little coconut water to hydrate her.

Regarding the L-lysine I live in Athens, Greece so I will check to see if they have it alternatively I will have to find an alternative but Thank You so much for the advise.

I will keep you posted with our progress and I really appreciate your help and advise!! 🙂

Your time and effort has been very welcomed by me and my little babies 🙂 🙂

    Hi Kittyzee,

One more thing I forgot to mention…..originally I used clumping litter and she was eating it so I bought garden soil as an alternative [she nibbled that too].
The soil was very messy so I bought non-clumping litter but she still has a desire to nibble it!!?? Could this be a deficiency of some sort and could it be potentially harmful?

Shall I go back to the soil? The only negative is that soil [even though clean] can carry ringworm so I’m in a bit of a pickle.

By the way she was playing very well before with her sister so I’m very Happy 😆 😆 😛

Hi Oscar, it was good that you removed the clumping litter, as most kittens do try and eat it. I think it’s because at their very young age, they just associate everything with food. Kind of like human babies putting everything in their mouths. I recommend plain, unscented, unclumping litter. The soil would be okay too, but the problem with all of them is that you need to watch her and not let her eat it. I think I might take her back to the vet and have them check her tummy and intestines for a blockage. The clumping litter can ball up in their gastrointestinal tract and cause a blockage.
On the ringworm, I would use the same thing that you are using. You have to wash their bedding and places where the ringworm has been. It’s also contagious to humans, but the same medicine used to treat her, you can use too if you should get it. Sometimes it’s stubborn, but the Lamisil should do it.
Keep us posted on your progress and good luck!

    Hi again Kittyzee,

Thanks once again for your insightful information it’s been beneficial for me 😀
I’ve actually decided to stop using the lamisil cream as I found it too harsh on her skin where as the coconut oil seems to have woken her up and revived her [I feed it to her too].

Never been into organic medicine but will give it a go [it worked for my sister’s bottle baby last year].
Lamisil will def cure her so if it persists I will use it when she’s slightly older and stronger.

Will keep you posted on our progress and thank you for being so kind 😀
The vets were a little off so I’m very grateful to you for your effort!!

    Have a lovely Sunday 😀

Thank you Oscar it’s also good to know about the coconut oil too. I use it myself to cook with and on my skin so it’s nice to know other uses.

    Hi Oscar,

Thanks for being guardian angel to momma and kits. First off, breath deep and release some stress. Your new fur babies sense when you’re upset and it may affect them. I haven’t found a generic for L-lysine. L-lysine can be ordered from Amazon.com, Entirelypets.com or Vitacost.com. These are the sites I use most often. Use the powder and not the treats. You could ask your vet if they have some or can get some L-lysine. They would have easier access in country.

    That’s my 2 cents worth.

Good Luck and keep in touch. I want to see your fur babies grow to beautiful cats.

    Hi Kittyzee,

Yes I’ve been pleasantly surprised about the amount of goodness the coconut oil does.
I did try the Lamisil again this morning but she broke out in a new skin lesion within minutes so that’s a no no for good now.

Think I might try Apple Cider Vinegar too but don’t want to do too much to her little body.

Thanks again for all your replies and I will be in touch soon!

Have a good week ahead 🙂

    Hi Pussigat 😀

You’re soooo right!!! They def did feel my anxiety which is why I think one of them became a little slower at eating.
Thank you for the calming effective words 😀 I have taken them into consideration and now both my twins are drinking and eating very well.

The little one still has qalms with her AD Hills food but I’m confident we’ll get there eventually.

They are Aegean kittens/cats so they are naturally smaller then other cats when they are kittens because they are built that way.
Too many stray cats in Athens, Greece 🙁 it makes me sad. They grow quite big though I’ve seen some huge feral cats here.

Thanks for the website tips too….I will investigate further. I never thought I’d move to Greece and be blessed with twins!!

    So happy 😀

Your words like Kittyzee’s have helped me more then you both know so THANK YOU BOTH!!!
It just takes a little encouragement from kind people

    Keeping you posted 😀 😀
