    Hi everyone,

My six week old black kitten Edgar Allan Paws never seems to be hungry. He would eat about three times a day – about a cup of food (wet food, shredded chicken, kitten milk) or less in total per day, and he never begs for more…I wonder if that is normal, because I heard that kittens are always hungry and begging for food. I always leave food out for him, but he never eats more than what I said above. He’s otherwise healthy, very hyper at times (running around, stalking and pouncing, playing with toys), and very cuddly. It’s just that he never seems like a hungry kitten, and isn’t interested in extra food – which makes it hard use food to reward or to coax him to do things (I even believe that the reason why it took him more than a week to learn how to use the litterbox is because I could never reward him with anything that remotely interested him – he wasn’t interested in salmon or chicken bits or dry kibble!) He’s otherwise healthy though.

    I need advice!

Hi EAPaws, I would say the the reason EAP isn’t showing signs of hunger is because he is getting plenty of food for a 6 weeks old kitten and doesn’t need to beg for more.
He sounds like he is a completely happy healthy and delightful kitten. Litterbox training can take more then a week so you have a quick learner there.
Possibly check for suggestions on how much to feed a kitten that age just to set your mind to rest.

Hi EAP! If you always leave food out for him, then he probably is eating at some point that you don’t see. That is free feeding and cats are harder to train if that is the case. Feed him and then take up the food until his next meal. He won’t starve (although he may try to convince you otherwise) and then feed him at regular meal times. He sounds very healthy and well adjusted! Congratulations!
