    Hello all,

I am sad to have to introduce myself with such a sad topic. My son and I rescued two kittens from a shelter at the weekend and both became unwell very soon after arriving home.

The first kitten, Meya, was taken to the vets and given antibiotics and we had some rehydration fluids to syringe into her. She was looking brighter, and beginning to seem a little better as my boyfriend was helping to syringe her. At about 4am we woke up (she was on our bed) as she was choking in her sleep. She had vomited and inhaled it. She died shortly afterwards before the emergency vet could get to her. At this stage Zach, her brother, was not looking unwell.

In the morning Zach was sick and I made an appointment at the vets immediately. He was seen in the early afternoon and admitted straight to the animal hospital as the vet suspected Distemper. He has been there since last night.

I have just come back from a visit with him (they were kind enough to allow me to visit at 10pm) and he is still looking very poorly. He is on a drip and has been sick and had stomach upset one more time today. He has not eaten. He purred when he saw me and clearly enjoyed having a cuddle.

The vets have not tested him for Enteritis because they say at this stage it is not so important what he has (he is in isolation there). I have been reading up on it and am extremely worried, not just for him but for the possibility of having future kittens.

He is 12 weeks old. the vets cannot tell me one way or the other if he will make it, he is no worse but definitely no better and very weak and sad.

Has anyone else experienced this with a kitten? Did they make it and how long was it before they began to heal and want food again?

I’m obviously in pieces, it has only been a month since my 10 year old cat Esme died and the possibility of losing two kittens so soon is really distressing.

    Thank you.

I’m so very sorry for your loss of Esme and little Meya. Probably not much comfort but Esme had perfect life with you and Son and in Meya’s short life she felt only your love and caring. Most of us on this site have experienced the loss of our furries and for sure understand your grief. I wish that I could be of help but have no experience with situation. Other TDKer’s might have advice to offer. I do hope that Zach does make it. Please let us know and take good care.
