My foster kitten had his first vaccine on Friday(4 days ago). He was fine after, This morning he has a bad limp on his left front paw. Im not sure which foot he got the vaccine. Could this be a very late reaction to the vaccine? I had one kitten in the past that had a reaction to a vaccine but it showed up within hours, so I am not sure if this could be an injury.thank you

It sounds more like an injury than a reaction to me. Most times, the shots are given in the hind area or in the neck area and some just under the skin. I’m not sure which (or if) shots are given intra-muscular. Kittens are fearless and don’t know what can hurt them, so jumping from high places and landing weird can make them limp. If you are still seeing him limping in a few days, then a trip to the vet to rule out a break is in order.

    Hi Cindy,

I don’t think he is having a late reaction and, anyway, they get vaccines in their haunches or shoulders. As you said, your other cat had a reaction within hours.

Have you inspected his paw? Is there something stuck in his paw/pads? Do you know if he’s jumped off something high and strained his leg/foot?

I believe an accident is more likely. Watch him when he walks and if he’s in pain you need to call the vet.

Thank you for the advice, the most he could have fallen from something would be a 2ft kitten scratching post, I have not seen him go near it. I never heard him scream in pain or heard him fall, but I am afraid you are right about the injury. He must be in pain I feel with a limp as bad as his. I will take him to the vet tomorrow:/
