Let’s just start with I have no idea how old he is? He has a scheduled kitten exam at a vet (i’m a college student with limited funds and petsmart vet offers free first visit check up), I’m just kinda worried?

I’m 25, so maybe it’s my maternal instinct already kicking in (haha) but I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid.

My kitten is probably 8-10 weeks. He is eating well, drinking well, using litter box no issues, plays… Nothing very different in his usual rambunctious personality, because kitten…

    Except his belly feels kinda….
Like a little balloon. It’s not incredibly big in proportion to his body. It looks rather normal from afar, but feeling it… It’s not like mushy little fat, like I think a belly should be. It’s not hard, it just feels kinda taut. Maybe I’m overreacting, like I said paranoid and my maternal instinct is just making me over analyze but I need reassurance?

About 10 days ago my mother found him, so he was”lost”(that’s another story) I don’t think he’d been out long enough to contract worms(though, it seems kinda common especially in kittens). I now people have mentioned across the internet that disease with fluid in the gut because of ruptured blood vessels…
Reading up on that is freaking me out.
Web diagnosis is like the worst because all I do is see the worst scenario.
I love this little guy. We’ve bonded! It would break my heart if he had this chronic disease that sounds not only damaging to quality of life, but expensive (again 25 college student). He doesn’t show any lethargic symptoms.

(He puked when I got him home cuz he had been eating adult cat food from my other cats. I stopped him after that and got him his own kitten food)

I’m trying to get a pet plan to help with expenses but for now, if anything, please let it not be more than just simple bloating.

I’ve done all my research but I just want reassurance that it’s:
    -over eating and he’s bloated
-worms(by the way is deworming a lot of tests and vet bills? Or is it something you treat by going to a pet store and getting over the counter and do yourself?)

He’s kinda laying on his tummy a bit here and there… This certain way(i’ll leave an image)

I see him sitting like this a lot after he plays a ton. Maybe over exerted? Maybe it’s nothing? I hope it’s nothing. Thank goodness I’m going to the vet.

i hope it’s just him being a kitten and not because of discomfort. Again, paranoia….

He sneezes a little bit too (paranoia? Or sneezing cuz… Irritants making him sneeze?)

    All right.
    Thank you.

Also! hello I’m new. How’s everyone? Glad to be a part of the kitten brigade it’s been so long!
Also, please excuse my horrible typos and grammar. I’m mobile, my Auto correct/swype is horrid >_<

    Hi Kaira,

Welcome to TDKland. We’re the fluffiest blog around. Concats on rescuing this wee kit. He looks about 6-8 weeks. Is he constipated? Kits can, and often do, get worms from their mom. He could have a feline “cold” or not. It doesn’t sound as if you should panic but I’m not a vet. Get his exam as soon as possible to find out if he his health.

I don’t know how broke you are but spay/neuter, dewormer and vaccinations will run about $75.00. This is not the price from a free/low cost clinic. Banfield doesn’t offer free/low cost services but get the free exam from them (watch out because they will try to sell their “wellness” plans). The links are for clinics that provide free/low cost vet. services.

Thank you for the links, that’s really helpful! When I spoke with banfield they mentioned their plans which I’ll probably give them the classic line ” I’ll think about it”. I appreciate your help.

As for constipation. He has poop. And it doesn’t seem rock hard or overly liquidy like diahrea. I had a cat suffer from mega-colon in the past, so maybe that type of chronic constipation is different.

If he had worms would you say that’s a lot of money? I read somewhere that medicine for it is available in a pet store.

I am not an advocate of home treatment simply because there isn’t an all inclusive deworming medicine. There are many different types of worms and the treatment for one will not work for another, so it’s important to know exactly what you’re dealing with before you begin a course of treatment. Before you see a vet. try to collect a stool sample ahead of time for this test. Take newly-adopted or newly-born kittens to the vet for deworming. This is a routine procedure, whether or not you think that your cat actually has worms. Kittens should be dewormed at least twice.

    I hope this is helpful.

I forgot to mention – use unscented clay litter for the first 6 months – Kittens like to taste everything including litter. He could eat the clumping litter and it will bind in his tummy.
