Hi, i have a 4 weeks orphanage kitten. He was soooo skinny, i have given him can wet food yesterday, but i think he’s not ready yet because after he eats he’s got diarrhea. So i stoped, and go back to giving him formula.

But he is so skinny, i think there was no weight progression since i got him. I am thinking to change his milk replacer to a different brand.
Is it okay to change his formula just like that? I’m afraid he’s gonna got diarrhea once again, he’s already so skinny????

And what probably the best milk replacer for him? (He’s almost 4 weeks i think)

Hi there! I think that it will be better to buy him some Royal Canin products, they have very good series for kittens from the early age. Just ask the employee of the veterinary pharmacy and tell him about your situation, but be sure, that the products of this brand are the best for little kittens. For some additional information you can look at this source.

For the next couple weeks give a gruel mix with Goats milk. Cats are lactose intolerant and can’t digest cows milk. Goats’ milk is full of nutrients, probiotics and gentler on their tummies. This can also regulate the poop. You can find it in the dairy section or the concentrate in the baking aisle. Mix the concentrate 1:1 with water or pedylite. If, at any time, they seem lethargic put a dab of Karo syrup or honey in their mouth. Also, a smidgen of mineral oil in their formula can usually help them poop. You can put a dab of Neosporin on his bum if he gets sore. He needs to poop but he doesn’t know how to do it on his own. Here’s a video showing how to help him poop.

This will give him a couple of weeks so he can get stronger. As far as type of food, do some research and decide if that’s what you want for him. Many middle to high quality foods have the same ingredients. Remember it doesn’t have to be the pricy food to be the best quality. Petsmart Authority is a good quality and price.
