Each spring during “kitten season,” thousands of newborn kittens join the millions of cats already in shelters across the country. That means your local shelter has tons of cute, cuddly newborns, in addition to all the mellow, older cats and everything in between. Shelter staff are ready to help you adopt your very first cat — or to bring home a friend for another beloved cat! You can help celebrate by adopting, volunteering and/or spreading the message of adoption.

MS skids into the Cafe. I missed Thursdays Cafe. 🙁
Ohhhhhhh the emoticons have changed, they are tiny and difficult to see again.
Yesterday was the first day of Winter and it was a superb sunny day. It was back to light clothing or swelter. It was also a great day as we caught our uninvited rat. He has gone to rat heaven otherwise known as the city dump. Lucky it was rubbish day. His downfall was champagne ham.

LOL, Airy rang to say she got home to find one of the cats waiting on the front porch. Usually it’s the younger cat but she thought maybe she is hungry. No, squeak squeak coming from the lounge, one fat mouse. Sigh. She managed to sweep mousie up and ‘liberate’ it into the back yard. The joys of Winter.
JJ, sending heaps of TDK White Light for Dewey to come home.
Poor Berta, hoping that it’s a strain from jumping off something and will heal quickly.
KZ I see from Wednesdays Cafe that you are also a haylage/silage lover too. Yay, I’m not nuts. 🙄 How interesting that dairy farms are going by the wayside, it’s the exact opposite here and dairy farms have taken over former sheep farming areas. Yesterday was what is referred to as Mooving Day in the dairy farming industry when share milkers move their stock and households to another farm. One upon a time the stock was usually moved by droving along the roads but now they are trucked. It was nothing to come across many herds on the nations roads as they moved from one farm to another.
    JK, beautiful poppy.
TGIF here, long weekend ahead. We celebrate the Queen’s Official Birthday (actually May 21st)and have Monday off. Yay

MS, yes it is sad about the dairy farms. Big business is driving them out, and the very low price of milk. Of course, most people here don’t understand farming and think that because cheese is so expensive that the farmer is getting rich, but the farmer never sees that money. I love dairying…the baby calves being my favorite!

I am raising my paw–I have rescued a cat or two in my time! 😛 And will continue to do so. I wish more people would adopt older cats, they are not always so set in their ways. We have a new one that someone dumped off, and it (don’t know yet if it’s a he or a she)lives in our barn. Mr. KZ takes food to it every day, so I suppose it won’t be long before I find that it has had kittens and I’ll have more mouths to feed. I would like to catch someone dumping an animal. They usually do it at night when we are asleep and our road is practically deserted then.

    Happy TGIF everyone!

Hi, Everyone! I miss all of you so much. This new business is taking so much time that I can’t even keep up with my laundry and I live alone!
Last week we were having downpours every day, hard, steady rain much of the time. Anyway, I went out to get in my car to go to the clinic at 10:00 a.m., and there was a cat carrier sitting in the driveway behind my car. I hurriedly picked it up and ran back into the house thinking “there much be several cats in here, it’s so heavy.” Well, there was only one cat and it much weigh 30 lbs., at least! Poor thing had been out in the rain for hours and the carrier had an inch of water in it. I got her (she’s a calico) and put her in a cage with warm towels and blankets. I’ve called around to local vets with no luck so far in getting her identified; I don’t even know her name! I can pet her on her head a couple of times before she start growling and I’ve already got some battle scars from her. I know she’s mostly fearful and confused, not mean.
Anyway, what I’m asking is how does one get a cat to lose weight? I’ve never had a fat cat before. My vet is out of town and I’ll ask for his help when he returns. One vet office kindly offered for me to bring her in to be checked for a chip and I will do that. Also, the carrier had a name written on it but none of the vet offices I’ve called so far recognize the name.
Some of you may recall that I have cared for a colony of homeless cats for the past 15 years and the number has dwindled down over the years from 32 to 20—now 21.
Joan, did you send me a voicemail some time back that I never answered? I saw one the other day that I couldn’t put a date on and I sincerely apologize for not answering.
I just bought a new HP scanner, printer and copier and am excited to get it up and working so that I can finally scan in photos of my babies to the TDK.
I hope you all will welcome me back into the cafe as I am determined to get back in and stay in on a daily basis no matter how busy other things get.
(I’ve forgotten how to sign.) Dell aka LD aka LDS; prefer Dell.
If you have any suggestions to help this cat lose weight, they’d be welcomed.

Interestingly I adopted both my kits (RB) Nicky and Dorry in June. And I had no idea that it was Adopt-A-Cat Month. All “kitting” aside, any month is the purrfect one to adopt a feline friend! But still …

Dell, you’re always welcome in the Café. This is a given! 🙂

Hi all – we adopted Miss Leela in June.
Good news/bad news here. Good news: Aslan got through his vet appointment with flying colors. He screamed his mighty lungs out while they drew blood. The tests came out negative for feline leukemia and aids, and he got his first kitten shot.
Bad news: No sign of Dewey. I’m sad.
Hi Dell – I may have emailed you birthday greetings back in March. At any rate, it’s great to see you!

Aw Joan, 🙁 On Dewey. Did you look around in little hidey hole areas. Maybe he’s trying to heal secluded away from the crowd.
    Great News on Aslan 🙂

Btw I haven’t seen my feral outdoor trio for at least a week. First I thought it was because of all of the rain…now, not sure. Maybe different time schedule do to longer daylight hours or…paws crossed catch glimpse of at least one of them this weekend. OK, time for part 2’s fun… back on triple flip!

Oh, Joan….continuing to pray and hope for Dewey.

In laws are on their way and kitchen folks are finishing up the backsplash…lol…cutting it close! The kitchen guys have done a great job. Gotta love people who take pride in their work.

Joan, I’ve looked back at several days’ posts on the cafe but can’t find out what happened to Dewey. If you have time, let me know what’s been going on. Whatever it is, I hope and pray he comes home and is okay. Dell

Good afternoon from Saturday. The sun is shining and it’s warm in sheltered areas. I went out this morning with Mr MS to move some stock and it was bitterly cold up in the hills despite the sun. Just as well I was wrapped up well complete with gloves. It was lovely watching the hawks and wood pigeons flying about and listening to the cattle as we moved them to a new paddock. I came home and HRH was waiting for breakfast, tapping her paws impatiently and my regular birds were waiting for their banana and seeds. The spotted doves that now come to eat the seed the sparrows to about were cooing gently in the tree too.
KZ we have the same misunderstanding here about what the farmer gets for his product. It’s the middle men and the supermarkets that make all the profit, not the farmer.
All our cats and even a few dogs have been rescues.
Dell, great to have you posting again. You do sound busy.
Oh my goodness about the mystery cat in the carrier. You were her angel that day that’s for sure. How unusual to find a cat in a carrier like that, someone must have heard you love cats. Poor baby must have been so frightened alone and in rising waters. I hope she has been microchipped but the way she was abandoned seems to point to that not being the case.
Sorry I can’t help you with the weight loss for puss, my grand kitty Lucky is a ‘big boy’ and even on a special diet he remains the same weight.
    Donuts ! Perfect JK.
JJ, still sending White Light for Dewey. Could he possibly have introduced himself to a neighbour and be getting pampered at a new house?
Well done Aslan and your foster Meowmy JJ on passing your vet exams.
ECB, enjoy the new backsplash and the visiting relatives. 🙂

Hi Dell – Dewey is one of the family of outdoor cats I take care of. He’s been missing since Wednesday evening. Earlier that evening there was some vomit not far from the chair where he was sitting, and a bit more in front of him on the chair. I don’t think much about cat yakkage, as kitties puke all the time, but a short distance away from it was a spot of fresh blood about the size of a dime. I thought it must have been from a wound from one of the cats, but now I think Dewey may have vomited it up.
Dewey had been spending almost every night in the house since last fall. It was early in the evening so I didn’t coax him in, figuring he would come in closer to bedtime as per usual. Of course, now I wish I had.
He usually didn’t wander far from my property, and a piece of me holds out hope that a neighbor will open their shed tomorrow and find him, but I have an awful feeling he felt so bad he had to get away from me, as cats do.
I haz a sad. Though I wish for four cats when I go outside, I am grateful for the three who are there – Berta, Star and Huey. I lost Louie to a possible heart attack in March and a neighbor feeds Mama Cat so she doesn’t come around as often, which is fine, as my neighbor’s kids love her.

hi Dell-glad to hear from you. I’m glad you saved the cat in the carrier.

No doubt HRH was tapping her claws on the floor. 😆

Oh JJ-We sending bunches of bright light to guide Dewey home. Paws crossed and please don’t beat yourself up for not calling him in Weds. night.

    hugs for you

Oh, Joan, I’m sitting here in tears after reading your note about Dewey. I’m so sorry Dewey hasn’t yet returned home but, as cats often do, they hide themselves and will even go without eating when they are trying to recover from illness or injury. I pray Dewey will soon come home to you.

    Ello ello~

Glad to hear so many of you are having wonderful weekends, and that Dewey has returned!!

We’ve just got done setting up the new “cat room” now that our ‘houseguests’ have left and I had the time to scrub everything down. {Three extra humans, two dogs, it was a bit nightmarish to say the least~} But the recliner is fixed and cleaned, floors have been scrubbed last night and dried out completely before we moved the furniture back in, and Baby’s playpen JUST arrived! Everything’s airing out and settling in back there before we move the kitty into her new room~ I’ll start a new thread with details and a video tour if anyone’s interested.

    Happy saturday!!

Kincaid, we haven’t met but I’ve been here a good while but only as an observer until last year when I started posting and got to know several people. Then, I guess it’s been about six months or more ago, I got so busy I didn’t post at all, just kept up by reading when I could. Now, I am going to do my best to get back into regular posting. The people in the cafe are extraordinary, phenominal and marvelous! I am always astonished at the creativity every day in the cafe.
Anyway, I read your post and I, for one, would really like to see videos of the new cat room. I have a cat room in my house and it would be nice to see what others do with their cat rooms because mine could stand improving. Dell

    Wonderful to meet you, Lois!

Well, alrighty then! 😀 Unfortunately, after the videos were taken, we DID have to put the box fort walls back up around her play space because the venturesome lil thing decided the underside of the recliner was where she’d like to be 🙄 We’ll give it another week, I guess~
