I rescued a runt kitten about four days ago. It’s roughly about 5-6 weeks old and is as small as 2 week old. However, we’ve noticed that he’s very very bloated. He eats fine, nursing for as long as we let him. He doesn’t overeat, and is staying hydrated fine. Should we buy him a litter box with non-clumping litter and see if he goes, or do we intervene?

    Please help.

You can put a bit of olive oil in his formula. This often makes it easier for them to poop. However, I would call the vet. It’s possible he has a hard stool and can’t pass it.

Yes, get a litter box with unscented non clumping litter. When he does poop, you put it and him in the box. Take his paw and cover it; he should get the hang of it.

I’ve recently raised a kitten from 2 days old up to her current age of 9weeks. While bottle feeding she would only poo about once every 3-4 days with stimulation. Our vet didn’t seem concerned and we tried everything from watering down formula, to adding olive oil or even pumpkin purée. Still, every 3-4 days was her regular up until she started eating wet kitten food and was weaned off formula. After weaning she has had perfect poops every single day! Our vet was never concerned aside from one time kitty went six days without pooping and required an enema. Definitely call your vet if you are worried, but like I said, ours had no worries as long as kitty didn’t go without pooping for more than 4 days. Bottle fed kitties often don’t go every day because of the formula, or because they are using up most of the nutrients and voiding very little.
