I don’t really need advice right now but I thought I’d introduce ya’ll to June! He was born last Wednesday day. Picture of him below. I’ll be raising him, with some help from his momma cat until he is old enough to be adopted by someone else.

His mother gave birth to 5 kittens. I was unaware she had given birth, so I am not sure why, but 4 of them were cold, and dead when I checked on them!I am not really sure if they were born dead or they died from the cold. The momma was out of the nest, and there was only one kitten alive and I immediately grabbed him, that was June.

He was cold but active so I warmed him up, fed him good, and he pooped a lot when I wiped him. After I warmed him up I tried introducing him back to the mom. She took him well and I left her alone the entire day with him, checking on them periodically.

Then I noticed this momma cat for some reason doesn’t like staying in the nest at night. And because June has no siblings to keep him warm I have to keep him in my room in a comfy carrier.

So I have night duty, and the momma has daytime duty! Its a odd arrangement but it works! Just thought I’d share this with ya’ll : ) June is a really good baby. Doesn’t mind eating from me OR his momma ahha.

June is a very lucky fella 🙂

Some mother cats are better than others.. I’d say Meowmy isn’t cut out for having kittens of her own.. A mother will abandon kittens sometimes if she feels there is something wrong with the but to abandon 4 out of 5 would lead me to think she’s not cut out for motherhood so having her spayed as soon as June is about 6 weeks old would be a good idea as females can become pregnant again weeks after giving birth and I know you don’t want to see any more dead kittens..

You should submit A pic of June for the Daily Kitten 🙂

With your good care, June will soon be as song goes “bustin’ out all over” and going through kittenhood! Sad about his sibs but he’s an adorable wee stripey tabby! Thinking my Dorry might have looked like him when he was a baby.

OMG, what a sweet stripey sweetheart! Good on your for taking over where mommy left off! LIke Buttons said, some cats just aren’t good mothers, who knows why? I’ve seen all kinds of mother cats and even good ones can go bad, especially if they have a second litter in one season. Keep us updated on your baby!

June is an adorable wee stripy guy. Mom sensed about his sibs but I’m glad you found June. Some cats aren’t cut out to be moms and the only thing I’ll mention is females can go into heat as early as 14 days after giving birth. Since mom is taking off at night, it would be best to get her spayed sooner. She will continue to produce milk as long as June is suckling. However, you should transition to wet kitten food at about 4-5 weeks. The more food he eats, the less dependent he is on nursing. Many TDKers swear by goat’s milk instead of KMR. It’s easier on his tummy and has good probiotics.

I would love to see a picture of him on The Daily Kitten.

    Keep us informed
