Hello everyone, I am very happy to say that my boyfriend – Joey and I, got another kitten. She isn’t really ours until next saturday, though. She’s 6-7 weeks old and is a long haired black and white tuxedo. we’ve wanted to get another kitten for awhile now, but we decided to wait until the right time, instead of finding kittens online because you never really know the kittens background, etc. So we were at Joey’s friends house today when we seen the kittens. His friend said they’ve had their first set of shots, and been de-wormed and he’d give us whatever one we wanted for $20. I fell in love with the first one I seen. She’s so tiny and fluffy and I can’t wait to bring her home. Oh, and other good news! We’ve found somewhere to live for $400 a month! With Joeys parents, but, we get 2 floors to ourselves and our own bathroom. Plus we’ll be saving a lot of money so we’ll hopefully be able to get our own house soon.

Anyways, does anybody have tips on introducing a new little family member to our home, and to Lola? I want to avoid anything that will make Lola not like her. I’m also afraid of Lola playing a little too rough with her. I was thinking about keeping her seperated from Lola with few introductions but I have no way to actually do so. I have a laundry room but there are too many things for her to get into. Maybe I can block off an area in there for her. I also have a bathroom but it’s very small.
Oh, and would bringing a kitten around make Lola territorial since she was just in heat or is 4 1/2 months young enough for her to enjoy another kittens company? I really hope so. Gahh i’m so excited but so nervous!

    Congrats CM, 😀
On two scores – as new place and new tuxie kit! Other TDKer’s will be able to provide advice on introducing new kit to Lola as I’ve never been in that situation muself.

    Good Morning CM,

Concats on your new kittah. Here’s a video and another link on how to introduce cats. You mentioned Miss Lola was in heat so for this to go well you really need to have her spayed. 4.5 months is an ideal age to introduce a playmate of approximately the same age. Good Luck

Wow Pussigato, that’s a great video, those cats are adorable too…!! Cheyenne, follow those steps and remember it takes patience. I think it’s easier to introduce kittens to each other rather than big cat and kitten. I am doing it now with a 12 wk. old kitten to 3 adult cats. 2 of them are okay, one is not having it! I know it takes time and eventually my cat will be okay with it but she’s holding out, probably because she always thought she was the baby.

I watched the video a couple of times, so cute. especially when the big cat was laying on the kitten. I have a wire dog crate that im going to put a blanket over and put the new kitten in there while Lola checks her out. I’ve arranged my laundry room also, so that little kitten can’t get behind the washing machines. Also, do cats need separate litter boxes?
I guess i’ll need another one anyways since they’ll be separated. Lola is good with the big cat that lives upstairs, however he wants nothing to do with her. She’s also good with my rabbit. I think she cares more about playing, than being territorial.
and good luck with your kitties KZ!

Thanks Cheyenne! You will need a small litter box to put in the crate with Lola. I actually introduced two kittens in that way getting them used to the comings and goings of people and other cats. The other cats come over and sniff and watch, a good way to do it in my book! Good luck!

    Good Morning CM,

The general rule regarding litter boxes is 1 for each cat. If you have the room, another as a backup. Don’t get the ones with lids because it doesn’t allow the cat in action to see around. They want to see if there’s danger. Good Luck and keep us updated please

HELP: 4 month old resident cat not getting along with 2 month old

Exact same situation as you, I had a 4 month old kitten and got a 2 month old tuxedo cat last Sunday (I assume you have yours now, got it last weekend as well?). Please let me know how it’s going and if you came across any of the same problems as I did! I’d really love to know how you manage in such a small apartment as well because I barely have the room to keep them confined either, I’d love it if they could stand being in the same room.
