International Homeless Animals Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in August every year. It was established by the International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR) to raise awareness of the problem of pet overpopulation. International Homeless Animals Day (IHAD) is celebrated in over fifty countries on all six populated continents.
Strays, street pets, shelter animals, call them what you may. Cats, dogs, horses, pigs, rabbits, turtles, birds, and more are in need of homes around the globe. International Homeless Animals is the purrrfect day to mark your calendars for adding a new four-legged (or three-legged or winged) family member to your menagerie.

We are aware of pet overpopulation and that it is a common issue of concern for animal protection organizations. Millions of unwanted cats, dogs, kittens and puppies are killed every year, but this is not the best way to deal with the problem. ISAR raises awareness of the importance of spaying/neutering animals to prevent them from unwanted breeding and supporting animal shelters.

Who are your rescue kits? It goes both ways I rescued my kits and they rescued me.

My first ever kit Nicky (now at the RB) came from a home where his Mom unexpectedly had a litter. Someone saw a posting at a local vet’s and alerted me.

Dorry came from a wonderful shelter called Cause4Paws. All of their kits are raised in foster homes until they find furever homes. And if this does not happen, their foster home becomes their furever home.

So I guess that while neither of my kits has ever been in a cage, in a sense rescued them. But as you state PG, they rescued me. My life for sure changed for the better when I become owned by kits!

Both Renzo and Livia were living in the streets; Renzo had been taken in by a lady who couldn’t keep him because her cat was 19 and the kitten wanted to play with the old lady cat all the time. Livia was one of those cats who got “lost” (or abandoned) when her human moved.
