Instinct, I can relate. When we moved back to KY, I went from my dream kitchen with lots of storage to a tiny kitchen. Some of the things I use every once in a while went to the garage and a lot went to Goodwill. Good luck to you and intuition on getting settled and with school.

I never have enough room for all my stuff! I wish I was better at ruthless clearing out. I did have a good clear out in the kitchen not long ago. My husband & I got married last January (after living together for 8 years), and as part of our wedding loot, we got new dishes. These were just a bit bigger and thicker than our old ones and so they didn’t even begin to fit into the space our olds did. So I had to rearrange everything, and moved a bunch of stuff into the sideboard in the dining room. Of course, then I had to figure out what to do with all the stuff that was in the sideboard, because that was full of all the junk that used to be in the bookcases in the dining room… So now there are even more crates of things sitting around needing to be dealt with… Aaarrrrggghhhh!

Hey Karin, give us about a week or two to get settled in and get our student loans (so we have a little money) I am also going to be looking for a job over at the shopping center since I understand that a Barnes and Noble is going up there and that would be the perfect place for me – books and Starbucks πŸ˜€

We did head up to Ikea the other day and if you have not been to an Ikea store you should go. Love that place, think we are going to be doing the whole apartment up in Ikea stuff πŸ˜€

If you don’t have one in your area, my condolences but they do have a website (you just won’t be able to get any swedish meatballs at it though)

Oh, I am now very, very happy…. Safeway has a delivery service out here. I won’t have to go to the store anymore.

Yea, it’s an extra $10 bucks, but I’ll tell you I hate going to the store. I’ll do it if I have to, but first I’ll stop off at the dentist for a root canal job on all my teeth.

    I love the internet πŸ˜€

    Hi Instinct,

I agree with you about shopping. I hate it! Does anyone remember Webvan a few years back? Apparently I was their only customer, because they went out of business. It was a blissful few months though, when I would peruse the groceries online in my pajamas with a glass of wine in hand~

I also LOVE IKEA, used to go to the one in NJ when I lived up there…to my delight they have opened one here in Atlanta. It’s awesome. I want one of the sofas with the removable slipcovers that you can wash and change out for the seasons. My current sofa has been used as a kitty scratching post on one end. Need to sell a house before I buy furniture.

AND on a final note, I worked at a Barnes & Noble in Marietta, GA when it first opened. Stayed there for almost a year; unfortunately it was like puting an alcoholic in charge of beer. Not only did I constantly see books that I wanted but in slow times I perused the website for online offerings and ordered them. At one point, the entire bottom “Hold” shelf were books for me! Also, my job description was not that I got to wander the bookstore and read, it was to stand at a cash register all day. Needless to say, I was spending more than I was making. The pay was pretty low too, so brace yourself. Maybe it is higher on the west coast though.

Best wishes to both of you. πŸ™‚

Instinct – so nice to hear your voice again – sorry the trip wasn’t 100% enjoyable but you made some memories and more fodder for great tales of woe done with your wonderful sense of humor.

I have a road story to share and it will date me – Married 6 months, 18 years old, moving from Naval base in NewPort, RI to Phoenix, AZ. Ex was driving our beautiful older 1956 Chevy traveling on the wonderful old Route 66 just before its final gasp. Fairly uneventful and then we hit the Ozarks and I needed an emergency rest stop. Finally a gas station and we pulled in. I asked the only attendant for the key and location. Pointed to right side of building and said I didn’t need a key. Went to side and no doors. Back to attendant and he pointed to path. OOPS, but it was an emergency and so I took the challenge. Opened the door to a two seater and low and behold there was this large mule resting his chin on the open window’s sill and that window was located over the seats. Really wasn’t as much of an emergency as I thought. Still have the post card I had to buy at that station for memory’s sake. BTW, I did manage to make it down the road to the next station with a bit more modern facilities.

I threatened Pipa’s Mum with the wack bonk stick ealier today. I now ceremoniously return it to its rightful owner along with a bottle of vintage champagne to welcome you to your new home. Enjoy!

Instinct, I do believe the Borders bookstore is due to open but it is still in its construction stage and they say it should be open by Winter 2007 so I would say it may not be open till after Christmas. When the TJ Maxx was going in, the store seemed to sit empty for a while before they stocked it and opened the store. We are supposed to be getting in a Bed Bath & Beyond store too. I like that store alot.

IKEA is a great store to help you setup a new place. I made the mistake of going there with my husband and he likes to look at everything. Me, I just breeze through most of it and only stop to look at the main items (bedroom items, sofas, and kitchen items).

I am so glad you’re both back! We missed you two. Sorry the move wasn’t the best. I’ve never had a perfect move, but I’ve heard of people who move with no problems.

Instinct–I totally agree with you about shopping online. Just last night, I ordered an obscure CD for my brother’s birthday on Wednesday. Yes, I paid more in shipping and giftwrapping than I did for the stinkin’ CD, but WELL WORTH IT! I’ll pay for convenience any day. I worked in a Barnes & Noble for a few months (while teaching during the day) in the coffee shop. Awesome place to meet people–I dated more in those months than in my lifetime, combined!

    #55857

I agree. I hate shopping anyway. I bought some undewear from the states because I couldn’t gey what I wanted over here. The dollar/pounf exchange rate is very favourable for us at the moment and your postage charges are very reasonable. Unfortunately the British customs decided I had to pay £4.50 import duty or VAT or something (didn’t mind that) and charged me £8.00 administration fee for taking my money. I REALLY minded that!

    Welcome I&I,

Glad you made the trip with no serious incidents.

I think you get the idea that everyone missed your sage advise and tongue-in-cheek comments.

Purrs and headbonks to you both.

Thank you PolllysMum, I was wondering where I had put that. The wife just kept shaking her head saying “If you would put it back where you got it from…”

FondaHonda – As long as that obscure CD wasn’t ‘Spaced Out: The very best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner’ http://www.amazon.com/Spaced-Out-Leonard-William-Shatner/dp/B0000089JE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-9398092-8990322?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1189521079&sr=1-1 πŸ˜€

Elene – that is too funny. We did stop in Buford Wyoming (population 1) and thankfully their bathroom was a real one. The population used to be 2 but the guys son left for college

Kathyanne – I will just refer to the song “Ohio” by Bowling for Soup”

    There’s nothing wrong with Ohio

Except the snow and the rain

    I really like Drew Carey

And I’d love to see the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame πŸ˜€
