    My 5 going on 6 week old kitten keeps suckling on his brother’s/litter mate’s genitals. I’ve done my best to discourage this behavior, but now the other one is bleeding! 🙁 I have to make an appointment with the vet as soon as they open to make sure it is not infected and the poor little guy is okay, but is there anything I can do to stop this behavior?

    Everything I’ve read online seems to imply the only thing to do is separate them and possibly find another home for one, which breaks my heart…But if it’s to the point that one is bleeding and in danger, then I will do what is best. Was just hoping someone had some specific advice (or perhaps tried temporary separation?).

    No need to find another home for the other kitten, just separate them. They are old enough now to be eating wet food. Either mixed with formula/goat’s milk or on a spoon. When they are awake and out of the nest they can play together, it’s just when you put them together to sleep you need to separate them. Give them nubby blankets like fleece and stuffed animal to lay with to get over the separation. They will be fine, but the suckling on the other one needs to stop since it’s not healthy for the one being sucked on!

    A follow up, just in case anyone in need comes across this post: I separated them every night for about two weeks, and that did the trick! They still suckle on blankets here and there, but never each other.
