    Hi all,

My boyfriend and I recently got 2 kittens. Frankenstein (Frankie) and Ghostie.  2 sisters from the same litter. They were 8 weeks old when we got them and fully litter trained. We had one or 2 accidents in the first couple weeks which we attributed to age. (they’re only babies afterall!) However… Ghostie has continued to urinate all over our house! They are now 12 weeks. We’ve lost a duvet, 3 cushions and a bean bag and have had to scrub (with enzyme spray for pet urine) our sofa, lounger and bed. Here are the facts…

    – They have 3 litter trays (not covered, 3 or 4 inch high sides) in quiet easy to find locations around the house. (nowhere near food or sleep areas) These trays are cleaned daily.

    – They’ve both been to the vets in the last 2 weeks. First week a health check, then second week shots. So it shouldn’t be a health issue. They’re due a second round of shots next week.

    – They both use their trays regularly without prompting for both poops and pees. (no poop accidents btw, only pee)

    – Their food, litter, environment remains unchanged. (same litter and food as their mummies home!)

    – It only seems to happen when we’re at home!

    – They both eat a combination of wet food (3 times daily) and have dry food out all day along with water.

    – They get equal hugs and cuddles although Frankie is very into hugs and cuddles, Ghostie has to be convinced but is very affectionate after. (we let them come to us, but encourage them verbally and with gestures)

    – 2 of the places shes been are where she slept/played. Although its happened twice on our lounger, 3 times on the sofa and twice on the beanbag she likes to change the spot she pees on. (3 times on the sofa – once on each cushion!)

    – although they play rough, they always cuddle up together to sleep (little tangled legs and tails 😀 )

    – they have a play house, multiple varied toys etc

    – radio is on when we’re out (but as I said earlier, it only appears to happen when we’re home.

    – when we’re out they have the living room, toilet, bathroom and hallway to roam. When we’re in they can go in the kitchen and conservatory too – which they LOVE btw – no bedrooms at any time tho after the “peeing through 3 pillows and 3 duvets” incident. Now I come to write this down, other than the one incident in the bedroom, it occurs to me that’s it’s only ever in the living room that accidents happen. (before anyone suggests it – our house isn’t huge and there’s no one room they could stay in all day)

I think that pretty much covers it…

    HELP! x

I had a similar problem with one of my cats. He is a male and at first we thought he was spraying but realized it was just pee. After a trip to the vet we were informed nothing was wrong with him. He went through a phase where he did this for a month or two (we lost one duvet) the. We discovered a laundry additive called natures miracle and it hinestly works wonders in the washing machine for taking odors and stains out. As for the peeing, Moto was recently at the vet and he asked about his accidents ( he hasn’t had one in over two years now) and after going through a list of reasons we realized that he only did it when he was stressed. We had recently brought him to a new home and made several other changes which stressed him out. Sometimes it’s hard to find out why they pee in weird spots one reason could be stress and sometimes they do it as a way of telling you something is wrong with themselves.

I would put a Feliway diffuser in the room she pees in. That will stop the peeing if it’s due to stress or marking her territory.

If it is only in the living room where Ghostie makes her mistakes, then it’s most likely that something about that room causes the problem.

Do you have an air freshener in that room (like one of those scented oil things, or a plug-in)? Cat’s noses are a lot more sensitive then ours, so she could be trying to replace a scent she doesn’t like with one she’s more comfortable with.

Is there something in that room making a noise that bothers her? A fan, the A/C, a clock, your boyfriend’s music, close to a public road?

If you crawl around on the floor and look at things from kitty’s viewpoint, is there something that may be scaring or stressing her?

Does she only use the living room when you are in it, or only when you aren’t there? Does she stop what she’s doing in another room and deliberately go to the living room to pee?

Does she only do it when you aren’t around? Is it possible her brother is following her to the boxes and being a little bully?

If nothing above seems to be the problem, then maybe it’s just a case of a little kitty playing and ignoring the signals that she needs to use the box until it’s too late for her to get there. If that’s the problem, you could move a box closer to (or even into) the living room until she gets old enough to recognize that she needs to find the litter box.

Since I posted we have had 2 “accidents”. Once on the beanbag again, while we weren’t looking. We’d just got up for work, and the patch was pretty wet, like she was waiting for us to get up before she did it! This was in the hallway. Just this last 10 mind ago she got the sofa again! Thankfully I caught her pretty quick so it was just a little patch. I’m pretty sure now that it’s deliberate stress weeing. She’s not more than a meter from her litter tray and Frankie was nowhere near her. She doesn’t seem to find any particular item/smell/sound scary. She’s way more hyper than Franks – a bit erratic compared to Franks excitement if that makes sense? So the obvious issue is us! Jealousy or fear. How do I convince Ghost that it would be nice to settle with mummy and daddy (that’s right, we’re those people!!) and Frank rather than laying alone, or resisting hugs?? Like I said, we’re not pushy – but it’s hard to give her attention when she shuns it then pees for attention! Argh!

Also… Natures miracle and feliway: can I get these in the UK? Our local pet shop sells neither and none of the online sites seem that great. It’s on amazon but one or two dodgy reviews about the seller/not legit product put me off. thanks muchly all! xxx

Mostly things like that are just a stage, you could call the vet and ask for advice or call the RSPCA or whoever you have in the UK 🙂

Hello to all. Guys, in 2019 you don’t have to throw out your stuff if you get urine on them. In such cases, I appeal to the rug cleaning company and they perfectly restore all things. But the problem is that if it happens often, it is quite expensive. Can anyone know any cleaning products with which you can handle the urine itself?
