So I have a 5 week old kitten. I’ve had him for one week now. The first two days he didnt poop at all, and the third and fourth day he pooped once a day and it looked normal. Now it has been almost 4 days he hasnt pooped. Though I found a small blotch attached to his butt. I cleaned it off. I took him to the vet and he told me to add a tea spoon of olive oil to his feed. Also, he is just taking milk and cerelac. No solid food.
He wont even drink water despite my best efforts. His stomach feels a little bloated and i think he has gas but i cant figure out a way to make him pass it.
Please help me. He is very active otherwise and purrs alot too. He gave no trouble in using the litre tray and has only peed outside of it once since i got him. He also pees frequently but doesnt cover it up. Is that normal?
and he rolls over and bites my fingers. I figured he’s just playing, but im concerned once he grows old it wont be as fun. Also, he’s pure persian breed. so theres this eye buggers that come out of his eyes every time he sleeps. The vet said that its normal and a genetic thing in persians. My friend also had one and he said the same thing. But my kitten wont let me clean it with ease. and as a result the corner of his eyes are always dirty black and sticky which makes him look dirty since he is white all over. Please help me. This is my first time raising a kitten.

the milk should be goat’s milk, found in a regular milk cooler in the grocery store or in the baking aisle. dilute the baking aisle goat milk, one part milk, one part water. goat milk is very good for kittens…

yes i second goats milk.its very good for them.i use it for my two kittens as well.even though ur kitten doesnt like to have his eyes cleaned i think its best that u continue to do it at least twice a day.once in the morning and once at night before bed.what i do with mine is warm compresses.and if need be u can ask ur vet for eye drops too.young kittens for some reason dont poop every day.i dont understand it myself but i was told that its normal.u may be able to help with the gas if u use a damp warm wash cloth and rub his stomach and butt.have u wormed him yet by any chance? that may help him too.

No I will be getting him dewormed on 20th of november. According to my vet’s advice. He is pooping every alternate day now. And growing up too! <3
Still having trouble with cleaning the eyes though, but somehow I manage to hold him down when he’s sleepy. That seems to do the trick!
Im so glad for your advice. Thankyou all of you!

    Hi Jaina,

Welcome to TDK land. As far as his eyes, take a warm compress and put it on his eyes at least once daily. The warm cloth should feel better. What is his name?

I, for one, think a second kitten as a playmate is the best idea. But some people don’t agree so here’s a link on how to play with kittens.

I did the cloth thing today!
He seemed to not only let me clean him easily with it but also enjoyed it. Thankyou! 😀
    And his name is Moody!
Working on the playing thing now! He keeps getting more adorable by the day! ^_^

hey, my little guy seems to be doing good. He started on cat food today and he seemed to fall head over heels in love with it at first bite.
He also got dewormed today. And has been a little lathargic and quiet since then. Is that normal?

Yes that’s normal. The medicine and deworming can be a bit tough on wee kits. In a day or so, they will be rip snorting around. You should see dead worms in their litter box so don’t panic.

I’m glad they like their cat food. That’s a real milestone. 🙂

I guess I got excited too early! 🙁
He hasnt touched his cat food since yesterday and I had to resort to feeding him atleast some milk so he doesnt starve. 😕
I tried everything, I tried crushing the cat food for him, I tried soaking it in milk, I even tried to put one on top of his feeding bottle so he can taste it before he rejects it, but nothing.
I dont understand if he doesnt like it, becuase he ate it so excitedly yesterday, or maybe its just the deworming med making him not want to eat.

Since he ate his food yesterday, I’m inclined to believe it’s the deworming meds. Go ahead and give him milk (Goats Milk) so he get nutrients. If he’s still lethargic tomorrow call the vet.

    Hey,
Yes he has been very happy with his food lately!
His health is also improving. He’s completely off the bottle now. He sometimes likes to play with it for a while but now he’s learnt to eat catfood on his own and to my great relief, he’s drinking his water as well. He poops twice a day as well! <3 Im so falling in love with him by the day!
I cant wait for him to be all grown up and fluffier. ^_^

    Hi!

I’m glad you and Moody are getting along. Most TDKers use Photobucket.com where you can upload pics. Set up a free account and start uploading pictures. How to cut and paste – Go into your library, select and open a picture, then to the right you’ll see “Direct.” Select that and come back to TDK and paste it.

I hope to see your wee Moody soon.
