Evwe since he got his booster shots he has developed a lump that has grown in the past week. It is on his shoulder. I have noticed that it’s starting to spread down to his front leg he has an appointment coming up on Tuesday of next week for another round of shots but I feel like I should opt out and have them look at his lump. I have read that it is a really malignant tumor and if he does have surgery it will come back more aggressive and he will need to be put down. If he doesn’t have surgery it will grow in size burst open and he will still need to be put down. Has anyone dealt with this? If so what did you do and how was the outcome? I don’t want to lose my 17 week old kitten

    Jessica,
Please do not wait until next week to see the vet. Call them, explain the situation and your fears, what you read, etc. thoroughly, and ask to be seen as soon as possible, ie immediately. My sense is that you need to know what you are dealing with and while there may be information on the Internet it is not – and never will be – in place of a thorough in person examination.
Can anyone else please provide advice on this?

I have not had any experience with this. I would take him to the vet for examining though and hopefully this will disappear. You need to discuss the next round of shots with your vet since sarcoma is your concern. If your cat isn’t exposed to other cats the urgency for vaccination wouldn’t be necessary IMHO.

See the thing is I don’t get paid until next week and I’m 7 months pregnant I’m trying to do the best that I can I really worried but I don’t have the funds for this until my pay. I feel like a bad mom to him. He is my first cat so I just want the best and our vet doesn’t take partial payments they always want full 🙁

Jessica, I’m so sorry that you are going through this. You are being a good mom to your little cat and taking him to the vet for his shots to keep him healthy shows that. There have been many times when I didn’t get follow up vaccinations for my cats because I couldn’t afford it, or felt they weren’t necessary or it was too stressful for the cat to leave the house. If you are worried that your kitten may have a sarcoma, then like KJ said above, call the vet and explain your fears about sarcoma. It is rare, but it does happen, I have not had experience with this. He will need to be examined by the vet I’m sure, but just because they recommend more vaccinations doesn’t mean you have to have them especially under the circumstances.

OK, I’m trying to think out of the box here. I feel that even if you don’t as yet have the funds for a vet visit you should still call them. There may be rules about payment, but perhaps exceptions to rules can be made on a case by case basis and in your case, especially with you being pregnant, added stress is the last thing you need. As your vet gave the initial shots, then any reaction to the shots should be regarded as a follow-up and you should be seen and not charged for this. Or perhaps they can make an exception as “Good Samaritans” if this applies. If you adopted your pet from a shelter or humane society perhaps they could have a vet take a look at your kit. Or if there is a veterinary college in your area perhaps you could contact them. Or a TNR (trap/spay/neuter) program might have access to a vet who would take a look at your kit. I just think you need to be as clear and as upfront as possible. Asking for help is never wrong. And please, in no way are you being a bad mom, you had no way of knowing this would happen. I, too am sorry that you are going through this when all you want is the best for your kitten.

Hi. My cat Eko had a walnut sized lump in his shoulder that was a reaction to an injection, not cancerous. But the vet did draw fluid with a needle just to be sure. I would think with a kitten some sort of reaction is more likely than cancer, but I’m certainly no expert. I’d think cancer would take more time to form. Eko’s lump took a few weeks. Hope you are able to get him to the vet soon. Let us know how it goes.

Another thought…these days vets give the vaccines more likely to cause cancer in the back legs, not the front. The back can be amputated with less complications in case of cancer. Vaccines given in the front leg are very unlikely to lead to cancer…at least most vets do it that way.

So I took him I’m yesterday. He was seen by the vet and said to just watch it for two weeks he belived that it’s just a reaction to his recent vaccination because it’s not attached it’s just under his skin and that it should go down in a couple of weeks. I really don’t know if I should have rocky get his last round of boosters this coming monday. Should I opt out because of this bump that he has?
