Okay, so I have two 2 week old kittens. A boy and a girl. (I made the post titled, 2 week old kittens.) Their mama and litter mates were killed by dogs and I was given them by my mother a few days ago… Anywho, I named the male Malki which means ‘my king’. I don’t know how well it rolls off the tongue. The female’s name is Sarai which is pronounced Suh-rye. Her name means, ‘my princess.’ ki-ki and ry for short. I like the idea of them having names that sort of go together, but I feel uncertain about these names. They are white with grey ears and stripy tails and legs. (Blue tip Siamese) So stick with Malki and Sarai? Or something less unusual? Moon and Opal for instance? (After my favorite white stones.) I also like the names that mean warrior or fighter, strong, etc.. Like Clovis for a boy which means renowned fighter. A girls name that could go along with it is Maia which means brave warrior. What do you guys think? More boy names that mean warrior.. Cochise, Sloane, Apollo.. Sloane could also be a girls name. Any advice?

Some people like to wait until the kittens get a little older. Sometimes they do something that just makes their names obvious. When they begin to show their personalities it’s easier to name them.

But, I like the names you picked. You will probably end up using their nicknames.

It doesn’t really matter because they won’t answer you when you call them unless they are in the mood.

I agree with CBM! Sometimes it takes a little while to pick the perfect name that suits your Kitty! My two younger boys were many different names the first week I brought them home before I decided on their names. I say take your time and pick the names that really go with their personalities! Love your choices though, they are pretty & unique!

Ditto other posts. It may take a little time but will come to you for purrfect fit. Say a few outloud as if calling, what sounds right & easy to say, hear!

I love the names Amber. But I agree that if you are unsure, wait awhile and see what fits their personality. We have two female kittens named June Bug and Free. Dan named Free but I wasnt crazy about that name. Still when I call her or refer to her it is Freedom and I like the way it sounds. Dan calls Juney ‘the bug’ and it fits her well.

Does anybody else dislike generic names?

Okay, so… My husband isn’t really liking the names I chose. (Malki and Sarai) People seem to think we are saying, ‘milky’ and just pronouncing it weird. 😉 We were running through a list of names I came up with and these are what we narrowed it down too. We would like the names to sort of go together since they are siblings and look like twins. I would love some feedback! 🙂

    1. Rogue (boy) and Rumor(girl)

    2. Sly (boy) and Savvy (girl)

    3. Arcane (boy) and Echo (girl)

I think these all fit very well with their look and personality it’s just hard to choose. Let me know which set of names you like best or any combination of the names that you think fit together nicely. 🙂 Thanks!

They say that cats which have names which end in an ‘e’ sound are more likely to get to know their names and therefore come when you call them!

You could give them ‘formal’ names for visits to the vet or cat shows and then have ‘everyday’ names which the cats get to know and to answer to, something which slips easily off the tongue, e.g. Arnie & Ellie

There are tonnes of suggestions on:

I’m sort of leaning towards Sly and Savvy.

My husband likes that combination the least though.

lol I always call kittens “baby” or “kitty” until I figure out names. One thought Kitty was her name, so she is now dubbed Miss Kitty. lol She learned that name way too fast, so what else could I do? 🙂 I want to name my new one Munchkin (Munchie for short because she loves to eat). lol Son #2 wants to call her Stormageddon (Storm for short) because she’s all gray and growls a lot. Whatever you pick, your husband will get used to it. DH haaaated the name Cleo, but now can’t imagine calling her anything else because she’s the little princess (she’s really cleopatra cricketbottom, but I just call her Clee or Cleo).

My first cat was as cute as a button, so I named her Buttons. We got a new kitten who looked so much like her a couple years later…my husband insisted we call her Snaps. haha We now have a similar stray cat outside who we refer to as Zipper. ;o)

We’ve had Buttons, Blackie, Snaps, Rueben, Oreo, Smokey, Reka, Cleo, Zipper (the stray who sleeps in my shed), Loki (he’s such a stinker), and the new one not named 🙂
