Hi! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in the day when I was in grad school @ Rush Medical College I got a B in neurology and was given an ultimatum. Leave or go on Academic Probation and get Academic Counseling. I chose the latter. While in AC I was given hypnosis tapes (yes tapes) to listen to. They were about studying and study habits etc. Apparently it worked as I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I came across some CD’s that promote decreasing anxiety (before surgery) and smooth healing (after surgery). I have been doing the decreasing anxiety prior to surgery CD now for a few days and it seems like when I do it it really does help my anxiety level. I have one for the hospital about smooth healing. I have been told I am “highly hypnotic” and take easily to these suggestions. Has anyone else ever done Hypnosis? Did it work? What do you think about it? Just wondering if anyone else had any experience to lend to me………….9 May, 2009 at 12:04 am #424513
MC, I know nothing about hypnosis, but I just had to say whaaaa? You got put on academic probation for a B????9 May, 2009 at 12:18 am #424514
Kilroy, get this! A was 95-100%, B was 90-94%, anything under 90% was an F. You would be asked to quietly go if you got less than a 90%.9 May, 2009 at 12:22 am #424515
i can’t believe you got on academic probation with a B!! holy smokes.. i made it through my BSN program with a B average, and that was with grade grubbing…lol… i started a master’s degree and gave up with kids , family problems etra… didn’t want to do it anymore… hated school and the papers yuck!!
i have never been under hyponsis, and wonder if i could relax. i have a very hard time relaxing and stressed out alot. what tapes do you listen to to releive stress? i just go chop down a tree or clean or read… lol9 May, 2009 at 12:24 am #424516

Well, over 1500 peeps applied to the school and 5 of us got accepted! LOL It was special, we got to go to the Med School! It was fun, we got inside places I normally wouldn’t get to go in a “normal” grad school. Plus I got my own cadaver to cut up! FUN! Ok, here you go, the CD’s are from the AlterScape Family of Products. http://www.alterscapeonline.com I ordered them off Amazon. The guy’s voice creeped me out at first but once I got used to it, I could relax and I am highly susceptible to hypnosis. I cannot relax either!9 May, 2009 at 12:34 am #424518
you got your own cadaver? how cool is that? i had to share with a whole class, and it was dried up and already used… the intestines were already on it’s tummy…. i got ripped off on that lab !! how awesome you were one of five of 1500 that applied , that is soo cool. that is a honor in it’s self. wow !!
thank you for the link to the tapes. i am going to order some. i could use some destressing… i’m always stressed out… lol .. even stressed out people can be hypotnitzed? i thought i couldn’t be… do you know how to hyponitze people?9 May, 2009 at 12:38 am #424519
I don’t know how, but I sure fall into hypnosis easy! If you can let the guys voice “grow” on you, it really seems to work. I will let you know how it works on the “healing” side after surgery.9 May, 2009 at 12:42 am #424520
yes i would be very interested to know how the healing works on you !! i am going to order the “soothing guy voice” and see if he can put me to sleep !! i’ll let you know !!9 May, 2009 at 2:04 am #424521
Let me know if it works, I tried it once many years ago but it was one of those mass group hypnosis things and it didn’t work. Never have tried one-on-one or tapes to do it. Might actually help with the headaches or so I would think.9 May, 2009 at 2:10 am #424522
I went to a hypnotist once for help with weight loss–I think I’m one of those people who can’t be hypnotized ’cause it sure didn’t work.9 May, 2009 at 2:15 am #424523
LOL @ MCM!!!9 May, 2009 at 2:24 pm #424524
Many years ago, my BIL, who was studying hypnosis, tried it on me and I seemed to have been a good candidate….and it was a very strange feeling, however, now I doubt I could relax enough to go under, but ya never know….yoga seems to really relax me once I get into it. I do think that hypnosis can be beneficial9 May, 2009 at 3:02 pm #424525
thanks katt, i find yoga does that for me too. but i am BANNED (drat!!) from any or all forms of exercise so that I don’t have a stroke before surgery!9 May, 2009 at 3:27 pm #424526
MollyCat….did you give out the hospital info of where you will be? Oh, wait a minute, I think you said to email you for it….I will do that, so if you see a nascargranny, don’t panic and wonder what that is! The surgery day will be here and gone before you know it and then you can concentrate on healing!
