I recently rescued an abandoned Koji. He is now 4 or 5 weeks (it’s hard to tell because he was previously malnourished and his growth is quite stunted). He is now thriving and healthy, went to the vet and he is gaining weight and playing and being normal and happy.
Now i would like to know how to teach him to be social and well adjusted. My one friend has a bottle fed cat who grew up to be clingy to his rescue dad and highly aggressive to others. I don’t want my Koji to be like that. I don’t know anyone with an adult cat that will accept him and be his “mentor” or cat role model. All i know about doing is when he bites me i need to yowl and go limp with my hand and ignore turn away from him as his mom and littermates would do.
He is very cuddly and likes to sleep with me which i don’t mind at all but I don’t want him to grow up to be one of those cats that wake u up at night for attention and get separation anxiety. Should i be more strict about when is cuddle time or should i continue to allow him to snuggle me? Will this make his affectionate or disturbed as an adult?

Sorry for the novel, i just wanna be as clued up as i can.

    Hi Christa,

Welcome to TDKland. We’re the fluffiest forum around.

This is a fairly common issue and can be resolves easily.

He will get lonely. In the past, he’s had companionship and wants some comfort.

If you haven’t already, make a nest for him. You can put a soft blankie and something that smells like you (T-shirt) in it. Then get a soft, stuffed toy and put that with him. Again, make sure it has your smell.
Do not use a crate rather make her nest in your bedroom out of box. Once you’ve made the nest, put Koji in it while you’re home. Playing with him in his nest will let him know this is fun place.

Please don’t give him treats as a reward. Treats become a bad habit and he can get fat or obese. That condition creates more health issues so if you want to give her a treat, get her some Goats’ milk. Put a little in a bowl for her. Goats’ milk is gentle on tummies and has probiotics. BYT, kittens/cats can’t digest cow’s milk.

Good Luck and maybe we’ll see Koji as our Daily Kitten (see link above).

Thanks pussigato! I’ll be sure to do that! Thanks for the concern and don’t worry, he gets not treats away from mealtime. I know in his bio i say he loves chicken but with that i mean that he eats chicken mousse mixed with KMR for his meals. I’ve tried goat’s milk and Royal Canin KMR but he hates it for some reason. He refuses to suckle and prefers to eat his food from a plate.

He’s so adorable!! It’s sad, but the fact that he was malnourished makes him even cuter because he is so tiny. He looks like a pixie my little baby.
