I work 9-5 mon-fri i went to buy some fish food and my local pet shop had my lovely George (male 11 wk old) i told the pet shop lady my situ an she said its fine. Cats are very independant. i fell in love and brought him.

I have stayed withhim every wkend and managed to get off early or start late the 2 weeks i have had him.

But i cant keep it up forever he has lots of toys , i live i quite a large one bed flat but…… is it unfair on him??

Welcome, Clare! Hurrah for kitties named George (check out my George in my avatar).

Many people would recommend getting a friend for George so that he has someone to keep him company while you’re at work. He’s at an age to have a ton of energy, and a companion would help him work it off.

If you can’t bring home another kitty, all I can say is spend as much time with him as you can, before and after work, and play with him with toys that let you interact with him (feathers on sticks are good, or balls you can toss).

I’m sure you’ll get more helpful advice. Again, welcome to the fuzziest place on the Internet.

Do you think another cat is less room for George though? I kinda feel i should give him up due to lack of time but i do love him lots. is there not a standered time chart thing that states fair and unfair! He can go out when he is a bit older but now i feel v mean i love him he sleeps with me every night i re4ally do spend all the time i have with him…

Every cat is different, so there really can’t be a standard for “you should spend x number of minutes with your cat per day”. Does George seem happy? Does he follow you around or beg for attention when you’re home?

Hee, hee, Clare as soon as I saw you using the word “bobbins” I knew you had to be a fellow Brit! – welcome to TDK. As Kilroy says, all cats are different, so it’s impossible to standardise things, but as a guideline, if your cat seems happy enough, then he is! We’ve got four cats (three up until 36 hours ago when we adopted a stray from our vets) and still find we can give them plenty of love and attention between us – and we both work. Look forward to getting to know you better on TDK :o)

I commented on your other thread. Cats sleep most of the day when you are gone and are fine to be home alone while you work. Try leaving the radio or telly on for George to give him something to listen to. Also maybe buy him a smallish stuffed animal to cuddle with while you are gone. He will get used to your schedule and settle right in.

Clare there’s a million and one different arguments as to which food is better for cats. Many people on this site advocate a raw diet (not quite as straightforward as it sounds, you’d need to read up on it), many prefer wet food (ie tins) because it gives cats more water in their diet, and many like myself prefer dry food as it can protect quite well against dental problems (and is OK provided the cat has permanent access to clean drinking water).

ooh my vet said one small wet bowl an the rest dry he said dry makes them want to drink water which is good for my cat, its very complex haha i wanna look after him the best i can thats why i came on here!

His teeth will fall out soon aswell iv been told i feel like a new mum, also my boyfriend who is round quite a lot seems to have better control over George he says NO when he goes near my plants an George well listens he ignores me!?
